Now I See

Kyle felt Jessi shift in the bed next to him, her head turned toward him in her sleep. She was absolutely breath taking. He reached to run his hand up her arm until he held her hand in his. It was an unconscious movement. He couldn't have stopped it even if he tried.

He smiled to himself, another unconscious reaction to this beautiful girl beside him.

His eyes shifted to the glowing bead that was resting on her neck, he hesitantly reached his hand out to touch it. It was glowing brightly; the exact same color as his, the same bright orange.

They were a match.

It had been a shock to him last night when he'd noticed. It hadn't clicked in his head that they might be a match when nether of their necklaces had glowed. He had believed like Jessi, that maybe it was just because of the way they were created.

Just another silly thing they had to deal with because of their birth right.

That though, is why when he was holding Jessi, when they were so close and their necklaces began to glow the same color he was blown away. For him it felt almost as if the world had shifted on its axis.

Everything he thought he knew was no longer relevant, all that mattered was Jessi. It was as if by having a visual sign that showed he and Jessi were meant for each other, his brain had triggered some latent emotion in him.

He would be whatever she needed him to be from that moment forward, and right then Jessi had needed his full attention. Her sadness had broken his heart, he hated seeing her in pain, seeing her helpless. Especially when there was nothing he could really do to help her.

He knew what it felt like to lose a parent. He had lost Adam, and now she had lost Sarah. The only thing he could do was be patient and stay with her.

Because really in the end. All they had was each other.

End

AN: I found this in my Incomplete Works file, and decided to post it now because why not. It was my take on how Kyle should have been feeling in the opening to Tell-Tale-Heart. :]]
