Rust and Feathers
An Overwatch Fanfiction by CakeCommando013
Chapter 1
It was no special day, trying to move a hover truck all the way to the end. Another group trying to stop them. Ganymede started to comprehend why all these people were attacking each other, but never could understand the point to it. And she didn't care, she was looking for her friend, that blue light, or the massive chaingun, the tell-tale signs that Bastion was out there. She knew that she had to keep her distance though, lest she be slightly….de-feathered, so she found herself little perching points around the arenas, where she could keep her eyes open for Bastion. It didn't take her long once she heard the "DO-DO-DO-DOOO-DE-DOOO" and she knew where he was, and what he was, the tank was loose, and a trail of smoke and explosions followed soon after. One group of heroes started to run away, Ganymede noticed the small one flit away with her blue streaks following, always a little faster than the rest. She liked this one, the streaks would remind her of the sky and her voice was always reassuring. Well, up until Bastion managed to blow her up, which didn't really matter, Ganymede knew she would be back in a few seconds. It all seemed to going…. well? Ganymede didn't really understand how to win, or who was winning. Just Bastion.
Once the match was over, Ganymede had lost all track of time and had just wanted to get away from it all, she just wanted to sit with Bastion back home. When people think of a machine going home, they don't think of Bastion's home, they think of small colourless chambers with cables and charging ports, devoid of any vibrancy or joy. Which meant that Bastion's choice of home would've been quite a shock to most, as he and Ganymede had called their home "Hideaway". From the outside, a grey, lifeless looking wall stood tall and imposing, even Bastion's servos struggled to crane his neck to look that high, but once he opened the secret door, it opened up to reveal a lush, colourful garden filled with all the flowers imaginable, and the wildlife to match. Rabbits, dragonflies, mice, it was there, and none of them feared Bastion, or each other. There was a tranquillity to Hideaway, any creature could enter there and feel peace, almost like a safe haven from the rest of the world, here there was no Overwatch, no Omnic Crisis, nothing. Just Hideaway, and yet, one being there felt out of place, and Ganymede could see it in his eye. Bastion couldn't understand this concept of peace, he tended the garden, fed the other animals, spoke to Ganymede, and yet, he couldn't understand peace. Maybe it was because as an Omnic design, peace wasn't a file on his banks, his projection display would show the same words every time, "Peace: Concept Unknown. Continue Search".
Ganymede was Bastion's ideal companion, and in some smug way, she knew that, Bastion's needs weren't complicated, he didn't need food or water, he just wanted a companion, between these matches of theirs, and speaking of which it would appear that another one was coming, had it really been days since the last one? She was spending so much time with Bastion and looking for trees to sleep in, she hadn't noticed. But it was time, so she would assume her position on Bastion's head, and follow him into battle, but once again, she still wouldn't understand who would win or what was even the point of it.
I hope you've enjoyed this first chapter, a bit brief, but the next one will be coming soon, enough reviews and I'll be writing the entire story and uploading shortly!
