Nine year old Mary Gibbs sat in the back seat of the family car. She had been pulled out of school to see her new baby sister. Hooray for her baby sister! If her new sister's birth was enough to pull her out out of school, she'd love to have more!
"Are we almost there yet?" Mary asked her grandfather, who was driving the family car.
"Not yet." her grandfather grinned. "But sit down please. If we're in a car accident, you're going to flying!"
Mary huffed as she sat back in her seat. Ten minutes later, (after spending about five minutes to find a parking space) Mary and her grandfather were escorted to the room where Mary's mother and baby sister were. Mary quickly pushed her way past a doctor and a nurse or two to see her mother. In her mother's arms was a tiny breathing mass wrapped in a blanket with a tiny, a bit slimy, and kinda adorable face.
"Well, I see here," Mary's grandfather exclaimed, seeing her baby sister for the first time as well. "She looks a lot like Mary when she was first born."
Mary's mother laughed.
"Mary weighed more." her mother said. "And there's no way that her sister is going to be a carbon copy either."
"Does she have a name Mom?" Mary asked. Her mother shook her head.
"Not yet, I thought you might want to do the honors."
Mary looked at her mother in surprise.
"Me?" she asked. Her mother nodded her head. Mary then thought about it.
"Emily... Joanne." Mary finally said. "But she shall be nicknamed Emma."
"She has to have a nickname?" Mary's mother asked.
"I do." Mary said. "My full name is really Marion Evangeline, but everyone just calls me Mary. So why can't she have the same?"
Mary's mother smiled.
"Emily Joanne..." she said thoughtfully, looking at her new daughter. "It does have a nice ring to it. I knew you'd think of something lovely, Mary dear."
Mary smiled proudly. She wouldn't be smiling long after her sister finally came home though...
