Hide and Seek
Kakashi jumped through the trees. An escaped convict was loose in the forest. It was a convict with a fondness for raping and gutting children. Several civilian children have already fallen victim. Kakashi was on a solo ANBU mission to find the convict dead or alive. A dog barked. Kakashi stopped and Pakkun landed on the branch. "He's a kilometer north, approaching a clearing." He nodded his silver head and dashed to the convict's location.
He arrived at the outskirts of a meadow. The convict was running straight for the center of it. Kakashi watched him with calculation as the man heaved through tall grass. His eyes traveled ahead of the convict's path, and he cursed vehemently. A child with conspicuous pink hair was picking Dandelions, oblivious to the man running for her.
Kakashi cursed again and made a dash at top speed to the girl. She squeaked in surprise. Kakashi covered her mouth. "Shh. Let's play Hide and Seek. I need you to go run and hide in the forest. Stay there. Stay hidden. I'll find you." The little girl nodded and ran through the grass into the forest.
Kakashi saw the girl's back disappear and he turned just in time to catch the angry convict plunging a knife at him. He substituted himself for a log. The convict stumbled. Kakashi appeared behind him. The convict turned. Kakashi slit his throat with a kunai. Blood poured out onto his hand, and kakashi wiped it on his pants leg. Pakkun poofed before him. "Pakkun, go and tell the Hokage that the convict has been taken care of. I'm going to go find a little girl."
Pakkun left and Kakashi walked into the forest. He listened quietly for a while, until he heard the soft sounds of breathing and the pluck of stems being torn from the ground. It was far, but not too far. He followed it until he came to a small alcove of trees.
She was there. A bouquet of Dandelions clasped in little hand and quickly multiplying. Kakashi crept up behind her, crouched down, and put a gentle hand over her eyes. "I found you."
The girl let out a gasp of surprise and turned to look at him. Kakashi stood. "Let's go back to the village." The girl nodded up at him through long bangs and crammed her bouquet of Dandelions into his hand before walking back to the village with him.
