Five years ago, in the Pokemon Contest world, Drew Hayden was a household name, the favored one to win every single Grand Festival. From all across the regions, coordinators with unmatchable calibers traveled to challenge him, in hopes of achieving glory. However, one by one, all of them failed, left in the dust with a face full of mud. Girls everywhere idolized Drew, chasing him around wherever he went, no matter what the consequences. He was invincible. Out of the unknown though, came a young, determined girl, who had a strong will to win. As a beginner, she worked her way up to the top of the Contest World for a final showdown with Drew. Her name was May Maple.
"May! It's time to wake up! You'll miss registering for the contest!"
"Ugh… Leave me alone. I haven't eaten enough yet," May groaned, her teeth chomping on imaginary food.
A sweat drop appeared on Max's head as he sighed, adjusting his glasses. "You even dream in your sleep, May. What a grumpig."
"Excuse me?" she shrieked.
Max turned around slowly, his expression like a deer caught in the headlights. "I didn't say-"
"I can't believe you don't have anymore chocolate cake! What kind of bakery is this?" May continued.
Brock chuckled. "She never changes."
"Uhh… huh…HUH? What time is it? Oh no! I'm going to be late!"
May hopped out of bed, rummaging through her fanny pack for her outfit. "You guys are so irresponsible!" she exclaimed as she pulled a brush through her long chocolate hair. "Why didn't you wake me up?"
Max sighed again. "We did…" he began mumbling.
"Well you should have tried harder Max. You're smart enough to figure that out on your own!"
"But-"
"Max, it's no use. May's too stubborn," Brock whispered, cutting him off.
May slipped into her blouse and skirt and sprinted out the door, fanny pack in hand. She took a quick peek at her Poketch and her sapphire eyes widened in horror. Oh no! I won't be able to make it there in time! If only I had some transportation…
"I've got it!" she called aloud. "Dragonite, go!"
Not stopping to put the Pokeball away, May vaulted onto Dragonite, and with several gentle flaps, the two were airborne.
At the contest stadium, the audience held there breaths as the deadline to register slowly ticked closer. Drew sat cross-legged on the steps, smirking at the path in front of him. "How pathetic! A coordinator who is really my rival would never appear late to contests!"
"Take that back Drew!" a familiar voice yelled from above.
Startled, Drew glanced up, his expression instantly changing from indifferent to interested. "Ahh… I see you've finally decided to come. What happened this time, overslept?"
May averted her eyes to the ground, her face a bright crimson. "Sh-shut up! I stayed up really late last night."
"Naughty, naughty, May," he murmured, shaking his finger at her. "What were you doing last night?"
"Augh!!!!! What gives you the right to imply something like that? You little-" May exploded, her body shaking with fury.
Her hands clenched into a fist, May prepared to jump down and punch Drew right in his face to wipe the cocky expression off. "Hmm… hmm…" Dragonite squealed, gently nudging her.
"Right. I can't lose my temper like this." Taking a deep breath, she flipped off Dragonite and landed on her feet in a neat dismount.
"Drew. You're going down. The ribbon is mine," May declared loudly, pointing a steady finger at him.
