The old red jacket lay forgotten on the chair.
Edward and Alphonse were in the bed, holding each other close, and in Alphonse's case, crying. It had been two years since they'd seen each other, and seven since they could lay together like this.
Edward fought back his own tears as he gently thumbed the moisture from Alphonse's eyes and cheeks. "Please stop crying," he pleaded gently.
"B-But I missed you so much, Brother," Alphonse whimpered, and more tears fell; Edward caught them before they could go too far.
"I missed you, too, Al, but we're together now. You should be happy."
"I am happy!" Alphonse exclaimed, fisting his hands in Ed's shirt.
Edward couldn't help but laugh softly at the defiant look on his brother's face.
"Well, I am too," Edward agreed, kissing the brunette's forehead, and then, after a moment's hesitation, his lips.
He lingered there for a moment before pulling back, taking in Alphonse's flushed cheeks.
"Do you remember?" Edward asked quietly, worried that certain memories may have slipped Alphonse's mind.
"Yes," Alphonse answered softly. "I remember everything we did while I was in the armor."
Edward smiled, relieved. "That's very good."
Alphonse's hot breath was on his neck, and Edward ran his hands down the brunette's sides. "You're beautiful," he murmured.
Alphonse blushed deeper, and Edward kissed him again. Alphonse responded this time, wrapping his arms around the blond's neck.
"I love you, Al," Edward whispered against Alphonse's lips.
"I love you, too." Alphonse smiled. "And before I forget, I have something to give you."
Alphonse shifted and grabbed his jacket from the chair after struggling for a few minutes, then wrapped it around his brother's shoulders. "I believe this is yours."
Edward fingered the heavy fabric, his eyes wide. He had almost forgotten about his old alchemist's jacket.
"Al, I..." For once, Edward was at a loss for words. "...You seem to have kept it in good condition."
"I really tried to. I even used alchemy, but that only worked for so long, I'm afraid."
"You did great. ...Thank you."
Alphonse hid his face in Edward's neck. "O-Of course..."
Edward tilted Alphonse's chin up and licked the boy's lips, making Alphonse laugh.
"Thanks to you, this last piece of our world will always be with us."
The coat, back with its rightful owner, kept the brothers warm that night.
