Slowly Riku woke, the bright sunlight streaming through his bedroom window and hitting his piercing eyes.
...he heard laughter...
Sitting up quickly, he closed his eyes to stop the dizzyness and then ran a gloved hand through his silvery hair. Crossing the room, he stared out the window and blushed.
There sitting on the beach, was the person he loved more than anyone else in the world. Dressed perfectly for the hot summer days on Destiny Islands, she wore a small purple mini skirt with a white and black singlit clasping her teenage body. Her small feet dangled in the warm water of the ocean as her beautiful ivory face was absorbed in the book she was reading. Fiery red hair framed a face that Riku loved to look at for hours on end.
He leant against the window frame and let out a small sigh. He really loved Kairi. Quickly his hands clenched into fists as a boy came running up the sand, chains and thick brown hair flowing behind him. This was Riku's "best friend", Sora. Even from the confines of his bedroom, Riku could still see Sora grin at Kairi and laugh. Quickly Kairi's head darted from the book she was so absorbed in to smile with such delight, such love, that Riku's face fell. After all these years, Kairi still loved Sora. But what Riku couldn't imagine was how Sora could be so insanely stupid! Can't he see the way she follows him, laughs at his lame jokes, consolodates him and coveres him with her amazing smile every chance she gets. A person that dimwitted doesn't deserve her, thought Riku.
Supposing he better go meet his friends, Riku chucked on some clothes and ran down to the beach. The hot summer sun scorced his already brown skin and as he neared Kairi his breath quickened at the sight of the perspiration running down her body.
"Hey guys!" he yelled, catching up with his friends and leaning on his knees, panting.
"Oh hey, Riku" laughed Kairi, flashing a smile at him. Though it was not the same smile she gave to Sora, not full of the same longing and love, it would still keep him going for the rest of the day.
Sora lightly punched Riku on the arm, "You woke up then!" he teased
Feeling jealously rise to the surface, Riku punched Sora back on the arm but a lot harder than he meant to.
"Hey!" Sora cried, rubbing his arm
Instantly Kairi's face was flooded with remorse and she narrowed her eyes at Riku. He felt like a dog being told off by his master and he sighed.
"Swim?" he suggested and the two's faces lit up.
Clothes in all, the friends ran into the warm water of the morning. The light reflected off the many palm trees and basked the water in heat, pure heaven.
Feeling his stomach tighten at the sight of Kairi's dampened body, Riku quickly swam out deeper into the sea. The other two, never to refuse a challenge, quickly raced after him.
Soon Sora had caught up and dunked Riku. As Riku came up they laughed and wrestled as teenage boys do when they quietened to hear no splashing.
Both boys eyes widened and their hearts raced with fear. Spinning round in the water they were faced with the ocean lapping at the sandy beach but no Kairi trying to catch the guys up.
"Kairi!" they both yelled, their eyes full of panic and fear in their voices.
