Ron Weasley tries. He really does. He just can't understand why his daughter would go and do the only thing he told her not to do. Okay, not the only thing, since she was sorted into Ravenclaw rather than Gryffindor, but still… Scorpius?
He was over Draco being a Death Eater. He got over it years ago. It wasn't like they were friends or anything, but they were… civil. That's the word. Of course, the moment he tells his daughter not to marry a Malfoy, she goes and… He isn't quite ready to finish that thought. Maybe in a few years. Or a millenia. Then again, Ron knows that Scorpius is nothing like his father was in the past. He supposes that helps.
But as he looks at Rose (his little Rosie) with the Malfoy boy, he is inexplicably reminded of himself pining after Hermione all those years ago. Maybe it's the way Scorpius looks at her. Like she's the sun. The way he looked - still looks - at Hermione. Also just how awkward they are around each other. Neither is willing to admit they know the other likes them, stuck in a strange limbo. The sun and the moon, endlessly chasing each other. He almost hopes they get together.
The thing that truly makes Ron support Scorpius is when he saw that boy trying to win over his Rosie. He is certain the boy is the spawn of Viktor Krum. Ron loathes him, and when he sees Scorpius's expression when the kid tries to put his arm around Rose… Ron decides that Scorpius is really not that bad. Really, anyone would have been preferable over him. Ron still refuses to say his name. Or even think it, really.
Giving Scorpius a chance wouldn't be too bad, would it? He doesn't want to imagine how Draco would react to Rose being with Scorpius, but Ron decides to trust his daughter's judgement. After all, she has her mother's brains (and look who Hermione ended up with!)
