"See that, Takishima?!"
"See what?"
"Wow."
Takishima Kei could only sigh in defeat. Yet to be honest, he found it irritating and amusing all at the same time.
"A green sunset! So this is why you took me to Hawaii?"
He continued to watch the other gawk with utter fascination. Honestly, if it weren't for a fact that he was a patient man, he could've sworn to tell it to her right then and there.
Of course, not that he was afraid. He was just stubborn enough to let the words come out from her lips first.
Oh, but how could he forget? He did say it.
Well, almost. Once.
Yes, until she mistook it as one of their many challenges.
"Ahhh, I wish I could make everyone see this!"
And to his horror, the very girl beside him just rubbed the truth on his face.
Hanazono Hikari is the epitome of denseness.
He had proved it himself a couple of times. And yet, no matter how "obvious" he had been, she would always make it to a point that he would be on the verge of tearing his hair out, even if that was to exaggerate.
"Take her to Hawaii. I heard some old legend about" –wink wink – "sunsets. And don't worry about the rest; I'll handle it for you."
He massaged his temples gently, as he remembered what Tadashi told him. She even made him to actually do things out of his character. And by that, it meant asking people he wouldn't normally bother asking.
People like Karino Tadashi.
And sure, he wasn't the type to believe legends.
"Some say," he started, causing her to look at him, "those who watch the green sunset together would live with each other 'til one of them dies."
"Really?" her eyes then began to soften, having a competitive look just a while.
And as they busied themselves from the scenery, their shoulders closed their distances, causing the both of them to act as if a live current touched them.
"Ne," it was now his turn to look at her, "This isn't a challenge right?"
Failed, he thought. How could anyone be so dense?
"What do you think?" he asked, encouraging her to finally give in.
"Thanks, Kei. I'm really happy watching this with you."
He paused.
"Did you just call me…?" he stopped as he noticed her soft smile and the slight shades of crimson on her cheeks.
Then it hit him.
It was the beginning, he thought. Finally it was—
"Ohohohohoho! I got you!" he froze as he tried not to fall flat with Hikari and her victory dance.
Yet, he reminded himself on how patient he had been.
"Oh yeah?" he retorted, managing to get his cool back, "I thought you were about to confess your love to me earlier, though. Am I right, Ni-san?"
"Was not!" she flailed her arms defensively, "And don't call me Ni-san!"
He just wouldn't consider subtle methods next time, he mentally noted. Or Tadashi's for that matter.
