Happy Father's Day! I wrote this little piece in honor of the holiday. It's my first Jane Eyre fanfiction! Yay! I haven't read it in a bit, so I apologize for anything that isn't cannon.

I don't own Jane Eyre.

Brought Together

Adèle never had a father figure in her life. There were plenty of men that her mother would have over, but none of them took her in as if she were one of their own. Adèle never knew her father. She knew her mother. The little French girl knew the drunk man next door. Adèle had never liked him much. His breath had a foul smell. Even though so many men came into their house, none of them were nice enough to her that Adèle would even dream of calling, 'Papa'.

Until Monsieur Rochester came.

Every year or so, the man would come to visit Adèle and her mother. Adèle followed him around, as if she were a puppy trailing behind it's owner. Monsieur Rochester would bring her mother diamonds and dresses. Money to care for her. Anything her mother needed. Time to time, though, the Englishman brought her dolls to entertain herself. Adèle never felt true love before, but she felt something whenever she saw Monsieur Rochester.

When her mother died, Monsieur Rochester took Adèle away. She was taken to a place called England. A new world. Adèle had ever been out of Paris before. Adèle wasn't allowed very many places. Her nursery, bedroom, and depending on the day, outside to play.

In the evening, when Monsieur Rochester would arrive home, Adèle liked to dance for him. It was the only way she had learned how to thank or show love towards a person. Most days, Monsieur Rochester rejected her invitation. Yet, Adèle tried daily to sing for the man.

One night, Adèle heard strange noises from the attack. The young girl's mind went to a million places. A monster, like the ones from the stories that the men would tell her. Ghosts. Phantoms. Evil Spirts. Adèle bolted up from her bed. She didn't run to Sophie like she usually did, but to Monsieur Rochester. He could protect her.

"Monsieur! Monsieur Rochester!" Adèle cried, banging on the door.

It took a few seconds, but soon Monsieur Rochester opened the door. "What? What?" he asked, annoyed.

"Monstre! Monstre!" With that Adèle burst into tears.

"Go find Sophie, enfant." Monsieur Rochester sighed.

Adèle shook her head, quickly. "No! No! I need you!"

"Please, child. It's late. We both need our sleep," whispered Monsieur Rochester, bending down to face Adèle.

Again, Adèle shock her head.

Sighing, Monsieur Rochester scoped Adèle up from the ground. He put her in his bed. The girl reached for her savoir. An embrace was all she really needed to feel better. But Monsieur Rochester turned away from her. Adèle whimpered. Something her mother would do in order to get what she wanted from a man. Monsieur Rochester did as Adèle asked, wrapping her in an embrace. He quickly let go of his ward, but the gesture still left Adèle smiling.

For the first time in her life, Adèle felt true love.

Monstre: Monster

Enfant: Child

This was really interesting for me to write. I've always felt like Rochester cared for Adèle deep down. I mean, he did adopt her. I also felt like Adèle wanted a father figure because she never had one, so it became Rochester for her. I adore her.

Thanks for reading! Please review and tell me your thoughts! Oh, and guess why there were noises coming from the attack.
