The Twins
-I don't own Final Fantasy VII or Violet Evergarden-
Three people are seen walking down a street, going in the opposite direction everybody else was going. The three individuals could be easily described as military, for they were all wearing military uniforms, but that was where their similarities ended. The one who was walking at the front was in his thirties, with his black hair combed back and a stubble growing on his face. If one was to look closely, he or she could see rings under his eyes, which means he is very tired.
The one behind him has small, girlish features with long, blonde hair, showing everyone that she is a young woman. Unlike most of the girls walking past the group, who all wore big smiles on their faces for the special holiday, her face was cold and emotionless.
The young man at the back of the group had blonde, spiky hair and slightly masculine features, almost like the girl in front of him. If one tried to compare the two, this person will find out that these two are twins, and that both of them have the same facial expression, which expressed nothing.
The twins both stopped at a stand that featured jewelry and ribbons. The man looked at the twins with a confused expression as the girl was looking at an emerald brooch and the boy was looking at a magenta ribbon.
"It's the same color as your eyes." She said as she then took her right hand to her chest as the man then looked at the boy.
"Why does this ribbon make me feel so warm?" the boy asked as the man frowned.
The girl awoke in a room with white walls and a bunch of beds, showing her that she is in an infirmary. The girl then realized that she could not feel her arms as she bought her left hand to her face. She then saw another figure sit up at the bed next to her. Turning her head, she saw that it was her brother, but with bandages wrapped around his eyes, which meant that something happened to them. The nurse then walked into the room before she looked at the twins with a shocked expression that quickly changed to a small smile.
"I'm glad that both of you are awake." The nurse said. The girl then started to look back at her hands and her brother's eyes.
"Why can't I feel my arms, and why does my brother have bandages on his face?" She asked. The nurse started to frown as she started to explain about both of the twins' conditions.
A man with auburn hair can be seen walking down the dirt road in the blistering sunlight. The reason why he was walking in the blazing heat was to pick up two individuals, twins specifically. Little is known about the twins. However, people who knew about them said that they were weapons. They would fight if ordered to. They both looked human, but they were just heartless tools.
The man found the hospital that the twins were being kept. He then knocked on the door and waited patiently for the nurse to open up. Once he did, he told the nurse his name and who he was picking up. The nurse nodded and invited him in.
When he got in, the first thing he saw was a doll and a sleeping Tamaskan. He then saw blood on the doll's hands and the dog's front paws, before remembering two blonde-haired individuals in the middle of a massacre, the girl with blood on her hands, and the boy with blood-soaked on his enormous broadsword.
"Lieutenant Colonel Hodgins!" The nurse called, snapping the colonel from his daze. He then looked at the nurse.
"This way." The nurse instructed. Hodgins stuttered before looking back at the dog and the doll, noticing that they didn't have blood on them. Hodgins looked back with a nervous grin and apologized. Suddenly there was a loud thump, causing Hodgins to quickly run to the room where the twins were located.
When he opened the door, he saw the girl on the floor, signifying that she fell off her bed.
"Violet! Are you okay?" Hodgins asked the girl as he helped her to her feet. She then looked to her left and her right as if she was looking for someone.
"Where is the Major?" Violet asked as Hodgins made an unreadable expression. Violet's brother then clarified.
"Where's Major Gilbert?" Hodgins gained a saddened expression as he looked at the boy.
"Cloud, he's… not here." Hodgins explained. Both Violet and Cloud were unfazed by this, clearly oblivious to what he meant.
"Where is he? Did he return home?" Violet asked. Cloud then shifted to a sitting position on his bed.
"How are his injuries? His injuries were very severe." Cloud asked, causing Hodgins to once again gain an unreadable expression.
"Is the major alive?" Both Cloud and Violet asked in unison with hope present in their voices. Hodgins sighed, unsure how to tell what happened to the twins. Hodgins took a deep breath, wondering how he was going to break it to the twins.
"He's…" "They've given us permission to discharge you two from the hospital. Lieutenant Colonel Hodgins came all this way to pick both of you up." The nurse interrupted, causing Hodgins to give her a thankful smile before he turned his head back to the twins.
"Uh, that's right." Hodgins said nervously as he scratched his cheek. Both Cloud and Violet then stood at attention, "Excuse us, Lieutenant." Cloud said with a straight face. The man quickly got up.
"Violet, Cloud, relax." He said to both of them, though they didn't listen.
"We had forgotten that you were a Lieutenant Colonel. We apologize." Violet explained as they remained standing. Hodgins quickly accepted their apology before they both sat down on their beds.
"Anyways. So, you both remember me?" The Lieutenant asked with a smile on his face. Cloud pointed his head at Hodgins' direction.
"We've met twice. Once during training and the night before the battle." Cloud explained.
"Yeah, that's right." Hodgins said with a smile before he noticed the small desk on Violet's bed.
"What were you doing Violet?" Hodgins asked.
"I was writing a report to Major Gilbert. They said that writing words would be good for my recovery." Violet explained. It was once again Cloud's turn to ask a question.
"Is the major well?" Cloud asked, causing the man to once again make an unreadable expression before he stuck his hand in his pocket.
"Don't worry you two. He asked me to come here." Hodgins said with a smile. Violet nodded as she looked up.
"So, that means he's alright." Violet said as Hodgins noticed that their faces went back to their neutral expressions. Hodgins then gripped his hand in his pocket, knowing that the twins still don't understand. Cloud then pointed his head at Hodgins' direction once more.
"The nurse told us that we won the war." Cloud said rather bluntly. "Where is the Major assigned now? When shall we join him?" Violet asked, obviously desperate to be by the Major's side.
"First, you two should change. I'll have them send the car in the meantime." Hodgins said as he left the room. The nurse was about to leave before she saw Cloud shudder with her peripheral vision. The nurse then quickly walked over to Cloud.
"Is there something wrong?" The nurse asked the boy. The boy nodded his head.
"I have a case of motion sickness." The boy said bluntly.
