Wammy House Memories – Episode 1
Mello's Malice
There he was again, playing with his stupid little toys. Mello scowled, turned away from Near, and lied on his back. This is usually how he did his thinking while pouting at the sight of his rival.
Near was so childish and stupid. Why did people think he was so much better? Even though they are evenly matched at becoming L's heir, no one would expect Mello to ever surpass Near?
Mello turned onto his stomach and turned himself so he was directly facing Near building a tower out of dice. No wonder we can never find any of the missing pieces of games, HE probably takes them. He thought, as he slowly reached his hand out towards the bottom of the dice tower. Near isn't paying attention. A wicked smile crossed Mello's face as he flattened his hand and slid the four supporting dice out from under the tower; watched it wobble, then crash to the floor. He snickered a bit, and looked up, expecting a surprised or hurt look on Near's face; but Mello's amusement ran out when he saw Near's face. Near was the same as he always is, emotionless.
"Damn it!" Mello said. He stood up and glared at the little white haired boy as he collected his dice. "What's wrong this time?" The voice came from a redhead wearing goggles and hiding six inches behind the screen of a Gameboy Color.
"Nothing," Mello said as he sat down next to the boy and pouted toughly. The boy continued tapping away at the buttons on his game. Mello turned on the TV and switched on the news. The announcer was in the middle of a story, "So Kira strikes again, with another twelve deaths of criminals in the United States," said the man. Immediately Mello turned up the volume and leaned forward.
Finally, something interesting, he thought. Mello reached over to his game-obsessed friend and switched the power off on the Gameboy.
"What'd you do that for?" He said.
"Check this out, Matt." Mello said as he gestured towards the TV. Words flashed across the top of the screen – The headline; "Kira; savior or satin?"
"Don't you think this is what he wants? Media attention," Matt said as he moved his goggles from over his eyes to on top of his head.
"Of course it's what he wants, but people are stupid and don't realize that." Mello responded. "That's what's wrong with the world. People are less intelligent than they are violent. Kira should be giving out education rather than punishing the ones too stupid to be rational." He said matter-of-factly while crossing his arms with a sigh.
"You should be God, Mello. God of the educated and bright," Matt said as he leaned back and turned the power back on his Gameboy. Mello laughed a bit and rolled his eyes. "Hah, maybe then I'd get the respect I deserve," He said with a slight glare in Near's direction.
Near had turned slightly so he could see the TV out of the corner of his eye while still building his tower (which is bigger than him at this point) at the same time. "Here we go again," Matt said in a hushed tone.
Mello restrained from talking on the topic further. Getting up and turning towards Matt he said, "I'll be outside."
He dribbled the soccer ball with him out the door. Matt sighed again as he moved more towards the right side of the couch, sitting right in front of Near. He stretched and "accidentally" knocked down Near's tower once more. Near looked at him blankly; then, once more, began to gather his dice to re-build. Now he'll be happy with me. Matt thought as he pulled his goggles over his eyes, and resumed to the vicious tapping of the buttons on his Gameboy.
