He turns and he smiles,
Such a solemn face,
Worn by the miles he's
Gauged in this race.
The night sky is rising
engulfing the city
And he is only now wising
up, embracing self-pity.

The world that he wanted holds nothing but woes
So he hides in the sewers
Where he sleeps and he knows
That his dark dreams have skewered
Every life that he holds.

Too little too late,
He checked out of his life,
Resigned now to this fate
Which holds nothing but strife.
He watches and listens
His sharp gaze now dull,
The violet haze glistens
The voices slip to a lull.

"What now?" he wonders,
As the days all race by.
As he recalls his past blunders
His despair rising high.

He's mastered each level
He's plotted and schemed:
Made a deal with the Devil,
Knows he can't be redeemed.

And the game that he played
Went exactly as planned
Until he reached the last stage,
Watched him die by his hand...

"So what now?" he still wonders,
as he hides his face
From the lives that his blunders
nearly wiped from this place.
The problems he ran from
Cannot be escaped
(because despite all his power
love can't be replaced)
