Chapter One: Teaser

The storm had died down to light winds and the rain had stopped. The forest animals began to inch out of their hiding places and return to the activities that night availed. One figure moved though the forest that did not belong. It moved with no sound on the dry leaves and branches, a ghost in the wood. It did not stop until it reached the enormous stump. There it stood mere inches from the nemeton. It began to walk around it, examining its surface. It stopped and reached down to touch the wood. The area was stained red. Blood had been spilt on the nemeton yet again. Standing tall the figure slowly raised its arms. All around strange noises began to sound. Roars, screeches, hisses, and all manner of sounds became louder and louder until it was deafening. Just as suddenly as they began they stopped. The forest around the stump became deathly silent. The strange figure looked around and then slowly nodded.
"Arché."He said in a deep accented voice.
As he walked away, his heavy steps the only sound to be heard, a tiny sprout rose up from a crack in the center of the nemeton.
