A never-ending stream of headlights flitted past an apartment in New York City. The city was alive and well despite the early hour. The sun was peeking over the horizon. A young man breathed in the stale city air the slight movement causing his chair to squeak. A slight breeze ruffled his sleep tousled curls. The small balcony offered a decent view of life in the big city. However, this particular man paid no attention to the noise. After living here for some years the noise had become just a part of life. A long night of studying turned into watching the sunrise. Today was the day of his last final. A degree in fine arts was within his grasp. After a few cups of coffee he would be ready to partake in this important test. In two days he would be walking across the stage to accept the degree he had worked his butt off for and then he would be starting his life with the man that he loved for real. No more school just two workingmen. In that moment a serene smile crossed his features.
Somewhere in the apartment another man slept peacefully. His day at vogue would not start for a few more hours. As he started to wake up he realized he was alone. That meant his fiancé had never made it to bed the night before. He groaned as his attempted to wake up his sleep stiff limbs. Despite all of this movement his head never left his pillow his eyes squeezed shut after the first attempt at opening them led to sharp morning light. After a few minutes of deciding if he wanted to leave bed the pale man threw his blankets back and let his feet touch the cold floor. His chestnut colored hair was obviously slept on and not at all perfectly coifed. The cold made him recoil for a second before setting his feet on the floor again. After a quick stop he found the other occupant of the apartment on the balcony. After starting a pot of coffee he quietly joined the shorter man.
The first man jumped at the sound of the balcony door opening. He quickly realized he overreacted when he noticed his fiancé. A quick peck was shared before the taller man took a seat. "Blaine you didn't stay up all night studying, did you?" Blaine ran a hand through his dark curls, "Not exactly," he blushed. "I fell asleep on my book for an hour or so." The taller man just sighed before getting up to check the coffee. "Kurt please don't be mad. I just got caught up because I want to ace my last test." Kurt turned around, "I'm not mad. I just hope you don't pass out in the middle of it," he grinned as he let himself into the house.
That day Blaine passed his final with flying colors. Not only did he walk across the stage two days later but he did so with the knowledge that his entire family was cheering him on. This included Blaine's parents, Cooper, Burt, Carole, Finn, and Rachel. Blaine had not been expecting anyone to show up. Kurt had managed to keep the whole surprise a secret. That night they celebrated by taking him out to his favorite restaurant. All those late nights of studying that had ended in breathtaking sunrises were more then worth it.
