Chapter 1

Where is Ahiru?

It has been a long time since they left Kinkan Town. After the story had ended they had returned to Mytho's kingdom so as to help them rebuild what the Raven had destroyed. During that time they had watched over the kingdom and helped the King and Queen with their many duties. Due to their help restoring the kingdom had taken a lot less time and so as to thank them the King and Queen had sent them off on a holiday.

There was no place that they really wanted to go so they decided to return to Kinkan Academy the place where they had first met, a place that they had many fond memories of. Of course the main reason was because they wanted to see the friends that they had left behind again. They had been under the impression that they would be really busy after returning to the story kingdom and that they would never see their friends again. So once they were given permission the left as soon as possible to the small town that only a year ago had been under the evil influence of Drosselmeyer.

You could imagine their surprise though at what they had found. It was truly like they had never left but even more so it was a lot like the events that had taken place since Ahiru had first arrived never happened. It was peaceful yet it felt like something was missing. They were extremely happy though at reuniting with Fakir but there was someone that they were looking forward even more to seeing. Magic was still reflected in the village. Mainly in the small things like how Mr Cat was still teaching at the academy.

Once they had arrived they decided to reenrol back into the academy because no matter what they still loved to dance. Upon their return they were greeted with a lot of enthusiasm mainly in the many fans that loved watching them dance. Of course it was a gigantic surprise though when they say Fakir in the arms of an unknown girl. This surprised them because they knew of the feelings that he had harboured for a certain clumsy duck. But he was their friend so they decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that things didn't work out or they were unable to find a way to turn her back into a girl.

Imagine their surprise though once they found out that no one remembered what happened last year. The entire village had forgotten all about the battle between the Raven and Princess Tutu. Even Fakir had forgotten all that had happened and what they had gone through. This more than anything was what disappointed them. They were disappointed that he had forgotten the girl that had saved them all and cared so much for him even if she would never admit it. Of course the girl that he was with was quite beautiful and a really good dancer.

Her name was Rachel and apparently they had been together for the last three months. She was quite pretty she had bright green eyes and had long strawberry blonde hair that fell straight down her back slightly curled. Rachel was quite a nice polite girl but she was no Ahiru. She did not quite have that spark that Ahiru had nor the life that she seemed to bring into the room just by her mere presence. Her eyes did not hold the same passion and enthusiasm as she danced. They seemed like a perfect couple complimenting each other perfectly. Yet she did not bring Fakir out of his cold façade in fact he seemed to hide behind it even more now. Not that she did not try, it was obvious that she really did like Fakir but he still seemed so cold.

After introducing themselves they asked Fakir where was Ahiru yet he completely denied ever knowing her. Originally they thought he was joking or just did not want to mention her in front of Rachel but as the conversation progressed it was obvious he had no idea who they were talking about. This surprised them, they did not realise that by bringing an end to the story no one would remember what had happened. Yet out of everyone they would have thought that Fakir would remember, after all he had played a key part in the battle.

They then asked around to see if anyone else knew where Ahiru was but it was obvious that everyone had forgotten her. This saddened them, to see even her best friends Lily and Pike who they did not even talk to that much forget their best friend. She had sacrificed so much for them and no one even remembered what she did or even who she was. Seeing as no one even knew who she was or even heard of her they could only assume that they had been unable to return her to a human form so they went the one place they truly believed she would be, the lake.

But they had forgotten that it was still winter and when they got to the lake they found that the birds had already migrated. She was a bird so the most logical idea would be that she had joined them. They were scared though, because everyone else had already forgotten the events that had taken place only a year ago what if she had forgotten as well and went back to being a normal everyday duck. She had sacrificed everything she was to save them and they repaid her by forgetting her sacrifice.

It was a weird experience to be back after being gone for so long and because no one remembered anything it was just like they had never left. But if felt like something was missing. Without Ahiru constantly yelling sorry for being late or being clumsy. Even though no one even remembered her name it was obvious that something was missing. It was in the small things. How Mr Cat seemed to have no one to yell at. How Lily and Pike had no one to mess with. But the ghosts of past memories still seemed to linger in the hallways of the academy, memories that would never resurface or so it seemed.

After a couple of weeks they had finally settled back into the familiar routine of the academy and winter was finally over. It was a wonderful warm day out and they decided to visit the lake. It was obvious that the birds would be coming back to the lake by now so they hoped that they would find Ahiru there. They sat down under the cool shade of the trees and looked out towards the lake hoping that they would soon see the familiar small yellow bird. Many birds returned to the lake but none were the clumsy little duck that they loved.

Rue in particular though was distracted due to the scene taking place not far from them. Rachel and Fakir were having a picnic nearby enjoying the welcomed warm weather. It infuriated her to no end it was obvious that he had strong feelings for Ahiru and the way he had forgotten her so easily was something that made her incredibly disappointed in him. She had heard of the promise that he had made Ahiru and it was obvious that he had not kept it, not that he did not try she was sure that Fakir would have tried and that it was not his fault that everyone had lost their memories.

Mytho noticed her clenching her fists and gently reached out interlocked his fingers with her. He gave her a gentle smile as he squeezed her hand silently calming her down. It was a beautiful morning, a light fog looming across the lake. Dew covered the fresh green grass and the flowers were in bloom, gently perfuming the crisp morning air. The lake sparkled in the early morning light, the reeds gently swaying in the wind to invisible music.

The familiar calls of the birds filled the air. It brought back fond memories of Ahiru as it had been a common sight to see her feeding birds on her windowsill. She called them her dear friends and even though she had her moments if they had not seen it for themselves they never would have realised that she as also a bird. Of course no one realised that Rue had been raised by the Raven as Kraehe either.

They had stayed by the lake for the entire day watching the birds returned and no matter how long they had scanned the sky for the familiar duck that was one of the best friends they could not find her. Mytho and Rue returned to the academy just as the sky started to darken. It had been disappointing because they still had not seen Ahiru but they just assumed that she was a bit slower than other birds. To them it would not be surprising after all, she was late all the time as a human and even though she had returned to her original form as a duck they did not believe that she would change all of her habits so easily.

It had been a year though since they had last seen her and people can change a lot in that time. Everyday since winter had ended they returned to the lake in hopes of finding their friend but it soon became quite obvious that Ahiru was nowhere to be found. Every time they returned to the academy, spirits quite disheartened by this. Others soon noticed that something was keeping their spirits down, particularly Fakir because he was Mytho's best friend.

But they refused to talk to anybody about why they seemed so depressed. As time went on they continued with their lives but there was still one question that had been left unanswered. There could have been many reasons as to why they had not found their friend, most of which were not that positive and they hoped were not why they had not found their friend. But still they returned to the lake in hope of finding the friend that they had not seen in so long. A friend that truthfully they felt like they had abandoned.

It scared Rue because even though she had been jealous of Ahiru for trying to get close to Mytho she still felt like she had a connection with the younger clumsy bird. They were both birds on the inside and had both been through a lot. Ahiru had loved Mytho as well but in the end had to let him go and be with who he wanted to be because she wanted him to be happy most of all.

Mytho owed a lot to Ahiru, her deeds as Princess Tutu had saved him and even though he could not return her feelings he was still quite fond of the clumsy duck. Ahiru was quite an innocent bird and she seemed to have an aura that lit up the atmosphere of any room that she was in. Her antics were quite amusing and they seemed to brighten up life at the academy and without her to them because they had memories of what it was like with her there, life was now quite boring to them.

Without the influence of the evil writer Drosselmeyer controlling the story in an attempt to create the perfect tragedy. It was not the same without Princess Tutu arriving to save the day. Now life was peaceful and everyone was happy even though it was missing the light of a certain duck. Ahiru had given up her life as a human to save them all from the Raven and in the end they had forgotten that she was even human.

She had even admitted that she was scared of returning to her original form as a duck, never to dance again. Ahiru absolutely loved to dance, it was obvious even with her clumsiness her eyes would always light up with a passion when she danced. Even though she had to give a life she loved, she did it to save the people she loved. In the end though to her it must have seemed like they repaid her by forgetting her so easily. What must have it been like when even Fakir had stopped visiting her and treating her like a person and just started to feed her bread crumbs like another ordinary bird.

Still it had become a habit to them to visit the lake every day even as it became apparent that the little yellow duck was no longer there. Perhaps they thought, she left because she forgot that she was once human as well. Or perhaps it was because she wanted to get away from a place that reminded her too much of her life as a human. Yet everyday they returned the lake and scanned their surroundings in hope of seeing her. But still every night as they fell asleep there was one question that seemed to go through their minds.

Where was Ahiru?

Little did they know on a planet far away a girl with ebony hair around the same age as them was dancing a pas de deux by herself. She wore a choker with three feathers one white, one yellow and one black. A scene that looked a lot like one that took place a year ago but this time there was no heart shard to dance with her and there was no prince to catch her when she fell. There was no one to wipe the tears as she cried silently because there was no one to hear them fall.

So yeah I decided to rewrite this story. As you can see this chapter is twice as long as the original one and I hope that you will agree that it is a lot better. Sorry that I have not really updated as much but life got in the way but my aim this year is to update my stories a lot more often. Still not really sure as to where this story is going but I guess that I will decide that when I get to that chapter. Please review to tell me what you think of the story.
