I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by sadness, rage, stress, overwhelming raw anguish,
who had no fix for the problems of their life, just to push through, until the end or they couldn't hold on any longer,
who had no control over their own bodies or minds and hurt themselves and others for unknown reasons, only that they couldn't control it,
who took a blade to their skin to ease the stress because they couldn't handle it alone and nobody cared enough to help,
who burnt themselves with fire and water to erase the pain from the minds, if only for a moment because it was swallowing them whole,
who wept openly because they couldn't think like the other children, because they weren't the same in school or in sports,
who knew they were different but tried to fit in for fear of being laughed at, mocked, harassed, tortured, tormented, left as an outcast,
who dumbed themselves down, took their beautiful minds and trapped them in a cage, to fit in to a place where they did not belong,
who changed all of who they were to fit the mold of society, so they wouldn't be tormented for who they were,
who fell asleep with wet faces because of the monsters inside that nobody cared to help them with, or they wouldn't ask for help for the monsters told them not to,
who found a fix for the monsters in the blade, or the flame, or the pills, or the drugs, or the barrel of a gun,
who discovered at a young age how cruel the world can be, how thoughtless humanity is, how uncaring people are,
who lived in the run down apartments with the pretend parents but were always told their life was far from bad,
who lived with the drunk and the bitch and never caught a break from the abuse and torment from kids at school,
who have no parents left to go home too, but have to hear about the other parents of the other happy, loved, bright kids,
who have been told so much that they're not pretty, smart, fun, cute, handsome, they'll never find love, they have no future, that despite being told otherwise, they will never believe the ones who speak otherwise,
who tormented others because their life was so bad, or they were so insecure, or they needed the power,
those minds of my generation were destroyed by sadness, rage, stress, overwhelming raw anguish.
