SUMMARY: A little ficlet: Love at first sight. GSR
DISCLAIMER: I'm just playing with them.
NOTES: I took some liberty with the naming of the flowers in this story. I know nothing, so I googled a yellow bulb based flower and used the first thing I saw. I don't know if they bloom in California. This started out as a drabble, but kinda got out of hand.
WORD COUNT: about 500+ in story.
SPOILERS: Maybe if you assume a little, "Toe Tags", "A la Cart", and "The Case of the Cross-dressing Carp".

It was the morning of the second day of his speaking engagement at the Berkley campus of the University of California and Gil Grissom was whistling as he made his way across the campus to the small lecture room in the Hearst Anthropology Museum.
He was happy, happier in fact than he had been in a very long time. He had gotten away from the death and destruction that was Las Vegas for two weeks: one week for the lecture then the second week, he planned to be a mere tourist in the Bay area. He felt much younger than his 43 years; in fact he had a distinct spring in his step as he walked along the sidewalk admiring the flora and insect activity of that early spring morning in 1999.
His mind wandered a bit as he shifted his briefcase filled with lecture materials from one hand to another, when his eye caught something that truly intrigued him. After all, he was trained as an entomologist, and what would capture his attention other than an insect?
Grissom followed the flight pattern of a common Bombus lapidarius as it flitted from flower to flower; finally landing on a Golden Tycoon Lily. He watched as the bee carefully extracted the pollen from the flower and then his gaze was captured by something spralled out on the ground approximately fifteen feet behind this particular grouping of lilies.
The young woman lay in the grass reading a book with her head resting on a backpack. She looked so relaxed and peaceful. She had to be a student. The brunette looked so young; he wondered if he'd ever been that young. Then he realized when he was that age, he would have never noticed the woman, only the bee; such was his obsession with his chosen field of study.
But now, Grissom thought if he were 20 years younger, he just might be enticed to go join the ponytailed woman on the grass and forget all about bugs and lectures. She looked vaguely familiar, but he didn't think he'd ever seen her before.
He wondered if she was reading a modern novel or something from classic literature, maybe she was cramming for a test. He hoped she was reading Shakespeare. That would be very romantic and if so, then she would be the perfect woman for him.
He sighed.
The idea of just relaxing beside her seemed so real, that he found himself blushing with visions of the two of them in a more intimate embrace. His cock stirred as the fantasy took over his imagination.
"This is silly," he thought to himself, "I'm too old for 'love at first sight'; it doesn't exist."
He shook his head and focused again on the bee, but sometime while he watched the woman, the bee had flown away to another flower. He quickly looked around, but the bee was long gone.
When he looked toward the young woman, she got up, opened her backpack and placed the book inside. Then he watched as she stretched her long limbs as she stood up.
He felt himself stir again as another fantasy of her getting out of his bed, every morning for the rest of their lives.
She threw the pack over her shoulder and walked off toward a future that did not include him.
Little did Gil Grissom know that fate had other plans for him.
THE END
