Rainbow Dash's POV
Today was Pinkie's funeral, as Rainbow Dash sadly remembered. She had died just two days before in the Everfree Forest when a Timber Wolf had torn her apart without warning, and Applejack and Twilight had seen just the end of the horrifying ordeal.
Rainbow Dash set her golden Wonderbolt badge on the grave, next to flowers picked by Fluttershy. Tears rolling down her face, she silently took her place among the others as the funeral music played it's eerie tune. The grave read Never Stop Smiling.
Time Skip
It was about a month after the funeral, and she still hadn't begun to move on from Pinkie's death. It was all just too sudden. The whole month she could swear she felt Pinkie's presence over her shoulder, urging her to move on, and try to smile, but there was just no way.
Twilight came later in the day saying she had a message from a pony who didn't reveal their name on the paper the mail pony gave her. The note was consolation for Pinkie's death, but in smaller letters at the bottom, it read : Meet me in the Everfree Forest come high noon tomorrow, and don't be late; this is of utmost importance that you and the other come.
The other? Who was 'the other' that the note told about? Oh well, not like it mattered, as long as she figured out what she was being called for, and why.
Unknown POV
She sighed as she ruffled her messy brown wings. She had already been through too much to let this chance slip by. The ponies she had sent the notes to just had to come. A dark blue pony approached her and bowed, showing utmost respect.
"Don't do that... you know I broke my horn for a reason, Blue Jay. I'm not cut out for leadership, so I chose flight over magic, I don't need both! I especially don't need you acting like I'm your master or something," she grumbled irritably. She never hated being an alicorn, but she just never really lit up at the whole idea of being a princess of an entire realm, and that feeling never changed.
"Sorry, Cedar, it's just that... I don't know, maybe I just think you shouldn't have broken your horn in the first place. It just doesn't seem right to me," he worded carefully.
"It's alright, and I know now I shouldn't have, but I'm still not made for leadership. My cutie mark is a vine with leaves, not a crown," the brown pony stated.
"Cedar! What are we going to do?! Have you forgotten? The pony you called had died a month ago, and you want the blue one to come without finding another?! Are you crazy?!" two earth ponies ran in, and seemed to speak in unison.
"Ginger! Cinnamon! You're back!" Cedar welcomed the two dark tan ponies. "I thought you wouldn't make it in time to meet the new ones like us. Or... at least... the one. Pinkie can't come, as you already know," she sighed sadly.
She knew that she wouldn't be able to meet Pinkie while she was alive, because that chance was long gone. Instead, she needs to use her magic to summon Pinkie. Even though she broke her horn, she still had magic left. Not much, but enough to support the Everfree Forest, and if she reduced the amount of magic dedicated to the forest temporarily, then she would be able to summon Pinkie and the forest would only have minor setbacks, such as delayed growth or cloud movement.
There was no going back now.
