Leena came in the back door and closed it quietly behind her, not wanting to wake anyone in the base up. She felt her stomach growl slightly and veered from her original course to the kitchen. She tried to take in a deep breath but her nose was too stuffy, she supposed it was from crying. Leena walked into the kitchen to see Bit eating out of a carton of ice cream with his feet on the table. Immediately she wiped her eyes and looked down at the floor.
"You sure got in late," he commented, looking her over. She just nodded and sat down, her hair partly covering her face. Bit leaned over and grabbed a spoon out of the drawer, sliding it across the table to her. Together they shared the ice cream between them in silence.
"You're quiet tonight," Bit said, noting her figure was more slumped over than usual as well.
"I'm just tired, that's all," she whispered, trying not to draw attention to herself. But when she put her spoon down she leaned a little closer to the light than she expected, exposing her arm and half her face.
"Oh my God Leena, what happened to you?" Leena withdrew from her position and turned her face away in shame.
"It's nothing I'm fine," she replied sternly.
"I don't believe you, your face is completely torn up." His voice was harsh, but Leena could detect an undertone of concern. She stood up and pushed her chair in.
"Just leave me alone, okay?" But he stood as well and grabbed her wrist. Leena let out a wince of pain and Bit let go, his features softening.
"Leena tell me what happened. Please," he whispered, leaning closer to her. Getting frustrated a few tears spilled out of her eyes and trickled down her bloody and bruised face.
"We got into a fight. He just started pushing me around, and then…" She couldn't go on and had to bring her hands to her face as she sobbed uncontrollably. It was true, her boyfriend had beat her, and she was hurt both physically and mentally. Leena took in a sharp breath as she felt Bit's arms wrap around her in a protective hug. She tensed and tried to push him away, then just cried even harder with the effort and let him hold her. Bit rubbed her back and rocked her back and forth, holding her as though he would never let go.
"I feel so ashamed," Leena whimpered, closing her eyes.
"You have nothing to be ashamed about. He had no right to do that to you Leena. Trust me," he said gently. Leena looked up when she felt something warm and wet drop onto her face. Bit's eyes were wet with tears.
"What's wrong?" she asked, pulling away from him.
"How could someone have done this to you?" I can't stand to see you hurt," he murmured, shutting his eyes. Leena couldn't understand it. He was crying… for her? Since when was he concerned about her well-being? He cried without a sound and the tears kept coming.
I never understood why
And now I see it in your eyes
You cared for me all along
And told me your feelings through a song
The way you move is a rhythm
The way you speak is a rhyme
And with you by my side
I will heal in time
Leena leaned into his embrace and held him back, both trying to console the other.
"Leena?"
"Yeah?"
"Promise you won't see this guy anymore?" Leena smiled brightly.
"I promise." Bit reluctantly let go of her and wiped his eyes, smiling as well.
"We should get to bed." Leena nodded in agreement and stood up on her tip-toes, giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek. Bit blushed furiously as she walked away, and contemplated how they were going to tell Doc in the morning.
Ha ha, done! Very short. I'd have to admit, not one of my better ones, but a fic none the less. Please be kind, review. Constructive criticism is always welcome!
