Riley Matthews had a major crush on Lucas, she more than liked him, she loved him. But she knew Lucas didn't like her back, he was too perfect for her.

He had the perfect face, perfect hair, he was an athlete, he was caring, kind, sweet, and a gentlemen. She couldn't help but feel this way, he was the perfect match for her. She just knew he was the one, but of course...she thought he didn't feel the same way. Correction...she knew he didn't feel the same way.

He was dating Missy Bradford. Sure he still hung out with herself, Maya, and Farkle, but that usually meant they got Missy too and they didn't like Missy that much. Lucas and Missy started dating in the beginning of freshman year of high school, it was now April of freshman year and to be honest, Riley didn't expect that relationship to last.

Even when Lucas was with them without Missy, it wasn't the same, they wouldn't silently flirt with each other, wouldn't have their cute moments they used to, and most importantly, she wasn't his princess anymore. Missy took that role away from Riley, and she wasn't happy about it.

When Lucas would go to the bathroom or something and leave Missy with the group, she'd start criticizing them, saying mean things, especially to Riley, but as soon as Lucas came back, Missy was perfect little angel.

Maya and Farkle were open about Missy to Lucas, often calling her the devil when he was alone with them. Maya would always make comments like "Where is the devil? Did she finally leave you alone?" and then Farkle would say "Did you finally break up with her?" This would cause Lucas to roll his eyes.

Riley, on the other hand, would never say a word about Missy to Lucas. She would always silently laugh to herself when Maya or Farkle would say something about her, but she'd never say something about Missy to Lucas, that just wasn't who she was.

When the five of them would hang out, Riley would leave early because she couldn't stand being there any longer, watching Lucas and Missy being all lovey dovey. The first few times she did that, Lucas or Maya would go after her and ask why she left, she'd tell Maya the truth but Lucas, she'd lie and tell him her dad wants her home. But now, it is the normal routine, Riley leaves early and the rest of them go on with their night, leaving 1-2 hours after Riley.

After Riley would leave, she'd come home and no one would be home. Her parents would go out on a date the night Riley had plans with her plans and leave Auggie at a friends house, she'd make herself a little snack and then head upstairs for the night feeling depressed. She'd occasionally cry thinking she missed her chance to have Lucas but that happened more in the beginning, when they first started dating, now not so much.

By the next morning she'd wake up feeling better, Maya would pick her up at 7:00, they'd head to school, Lucas would be waiting for Riley at her locker, Farkle would come over, then finally Missy would show up, they'd head to class, go to lunch, finish the rest of the day, head to Svorski's, then head home.

Sometimes they'd get dinner together then head to Svorski's again but not usually.

That day though, April 25, things would change, and they would change for the better. Lucas finally broke things off with Missy. It took almost 8 months but he finally broke up with her. He had no reason besides, he still liked Riley.

Walking into school that morning, Lucas felt free, he broke things off with Missy the night before, of course Maya and Farkle teased Lucas as Riley silently laughed.

Instead of rolling his eyes he said "She's not coming."

Riley's eyes went wide and Maya asked him, "Why? Is she sick?"

"Nope, we're over"

"What!?," Riley practically screamed. Maya and Farkle stared at her, letting her know what she just did. Lucas chuckled at her actions, she then blushed and looked down, clearly embarrassed.

"Yeah, um, she just wasn't my type."

"Oh, well I hope you find her soon."

Lucas gave her a small nod and walked away with Farkle to biology as Riley and Maya walked the other way to algebra.

"So you think ranger rick will ever ask you out now that he is free?," Maya asked.

"That's funny to think that he actually likes me," Riley replied.

"You know he likes you."

"Whatever, we are going to be late if we don't hurry up."

After their first period classes the rest of the day flew by. They were all laughing, joking around, having fun, just like old times. That's how they all liked it.

After school, the gang headed to Svorski's. They celebrated the break up of Lucas and Missy but someone was very quiet. Riley hasn't said a word since they got out of school, and everyone thought that was strange.

"Riley, you okay? You seem very quiet," Lucas asked.

"I'm fine," she replied

"You sure because you don't look so fine."

"I'm fine just drop it," she snapped/

The three of them looked at her shocked, she never snapped at anyone, especially Lucas.

Clearly embarrassed, she quietly mumbled, "I have to go." Then walked out of the bakery. Right when she walked out, it started pouring.

"Great, just great," she mumbled. Walking to her home, she hadn't realized Lucas was following her.

"Riley! Riley wait up!," he shouted out.

"What," she said annoyed. Why'd he have to stop me in the rain, I'm getting more soaked she thought.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, nothing is wrong. Just drop it like I told you in the bakery," she snapped...again.

"You never yell at me. This isn't the Riley I know and I want to know why and I want to know now," he said stepping closer.

"You want to know what's wrong. It's that your stupid little girlfriend of yours won't leave me alone and said you broke up with her for me, explaining how she was going to get you back and you'd never like me back. She told me you said this to her, you told her you never would have feelings for me and you never had feelings for me, every moment we shared was completely as friends. You've called her a princess in front of me multiple times, gave her a few kisses telling her those were your moments, saying 'hi' to each other as you greet each other and it's not right. Everything you have said to her or every cute moment you two have had was supposed to be our cute moments. Not just one of us having them and the other one standing there on the side lines watching, but I guess you don't care because if you did, you'd actually give me the moment I have been waiting for since seventh grade."

Lucas stood there dumbfounded, not knowing what to say. "Wow, I never knew you felt that way. Riley, I'm sorry, I didn't know."

"Well now you do, okay? Are you happy now? You don't understand what has been going on since you've been dating her, she always says mean things to me but I never told you because I knew you were happy. And that's what it was all about for me, letting you be happy, letting you finally get to enjoy something, you deserve that joy in life more than anyone, that's why I never said anything to you, to keep you happy and full of joy," she said finally calmed down.

"You went through that just for my happiness?," he asked astonished.

"Yep, pretty much and now that I said that I hope you know how deeply I care for you, I just want to see you hap-," she was cut off when Lucas ran towards her, both sopping wet from the rain, and kissed her. She was at first shocked but then she melted into his lips, kissing back.

"I am happy when I'm with you, I always have been, always will be. How's that for a moment?," he said.

She bit her lip looking down giving a shy smile, and kissed him. After months, she finally got her prince back.

There's a rule when it comes to love, go with your head, not with your heart. As soon as Riley was kissing him, she knew he was too good for her, but that didn't stop her from going with her heart, her head wasn't used in this decision, but Riley and Lucas, they were something else, she didn't need her head with him.
