My Stepdad Gives Me A Sword
Running from monsters with my step-brother isn't on my to-do list. Unfortunately, I have to cut my way through Ancient Greek monsters in order to save my brother from being eaten alive. It's been only a few days since my Mom was devoured by Hellhounds, but it feels like months. Then again, it's not every day that I fight monsters with a magic sword. Maybe this isn't the best place to start, so I'll give you a rundown of how I got here.
I was 4 years old when my dad left me, but I didn't care. He never cared about me, and he wasn't anything special. Expecting me to be a Half-Blood? Demigod? I'm just a mortal. I was 5 when my Mom met my step-dad. I didn't remember much of him, but I did remember his warmth, his smile. He cared for me, more than my Dad did. That's when Henry was born, and he left. Everything changed after that. Henry was always getting into trouble. Wierdness followed him, and only me and Mom believed his stories. About monsters attacking his school, creatures following him, massive dogs trying to eat him.
We moved often. Every time I made a real friend or really liked a school, we had to move. Henry just...attracted danger. He seemed to be able to predict the future, he could sing amazing songs, he didn't seem truly human, but that never stopped me from loving him. Henry was the closest person I had, other than Mom. Then, Henry turned 11. On that day, I was visited by a spirit. I couldn't make out features, but it told me to bring Henry to a summer camp, that he was in danger. It gave me a golden bracelet and said it was a powerful weapon, I just had to change it's current form. Finally, it gave me the power to see through The Mist, and erupted in flames. That's when the Hellhounds attacked.
They crashed through my living room window, and tackled my mom. I willed my bracelet to become a weapon, and it grew long, into a Katana, except the blade was bronze instead of steel. I slashed through a hound about to attack Henry, grabbed him, and jumped out the window. We ran as fast as we could, out into the woods behind our house on the outskirts of New York, my sword lighting the path as we went.
