Behind the Scenes of the Triwizard Tournament

Chapter 1

It was the beginning of Hermione's 4th year in Hogwarts and she was happy to be back. That was until her friend Harry Potter was chosen to be a Triwizard champion. That changed everything. It was clear from the fact that Ron and Harry weren't speaking to each other. They got into an argument. It's best she leaves them to their own devices instead of trying to help them and get into the middle of it.

'I guess I should go to the library and see if there is anything interesting to read," thought Hermione.

When she went there she picked the first interesting book she saw and sat alone in the corner of the library reading. Half an hour later she was so absorbed in the book she didn't hear someone approaching her.

"Hello," someone greeted her.

Startled, Hermione dropped her book and turned to look at the person with a deer in headlights look.

"Hello," Hermione greeted back once she got her bearings back.

"May I sit with you?"

"Yes, you may. Who are you?" she asked.

The person looked shocked.

'I thought everyone knew who I am,' the person thought confused. "My name is Viktor Krum. May I ask who this beautiful lady's name is?" he asked as he sat down next to her.

Hermione thought she heard that name sounded familiar to her. She had heard it at the Quidditch World Cup. Now that she thought about it, Ron had said something about him the night the other two schools had came.

'I can't believe I forgot! He's a famous quidditch player. He's also a triwizard champion. What does he want with me? I can't be that interesting' she thought and then answered his previous question," My name is Hermione Granger."

"Do you mind if I stay here for a bit? This seems to be the only place won't find me?" Viktor asked nervously.

"No, I don't mind," Hermione answered with a smile.

"So what are you doing here all alone? I thought you would be with those two friends of yours," he asked.

"Oh! Harry and Ron? They're arguing right now and I think it's better if I don't get in the middle of that," she said.

"Why are they fighting? You all seem very close," questioned Viktor curiously.

He had seen them in the Quidditch World Cup in the summer and in the hallways before they chose the champions the night before. They were always talking and laughing together. It was like nothing could tear them apart. They acted like brothers and sisters.

"Well," she sighed, "Ron is angry and jealous that Harry is a champion. Harry is angry that Ron doesn't believe that he didn't put his name in the cup."

She didn't know why she was telling him this. It just felt right, telling him about her problems. Still, it didn't mean that she wanted to talk about it any longer.

Viktor sensing this changed the subject by asking her, "So, since we're going to be here for a while why don't you tell me about yourself and I'll tell you about myself?"

That was how they spent the rest of the day until curfew at 10:00 pm, telling the other about themselves and learning that they had much in common like their love for reading. It turned out that it was the reason that Viktor had come to the library. He had been hoping to hide from his fan girls and read a book in the library until he saw her there all alone and decided to talk to her. When it was time to leave they promised to meet up the next day in the same spot after breakfast.
