The Silver Guardian
Prologue
It was a quiet night. Everything was normal. Nothing disturbed the night.
And yet even the peace can't last long.
Suddenly, the night's sky filled with dark angry clouds. Lighting striking across them, almost as though they were fighting one another. The black clouds grew, growing noisier and angrier by the second.
There were three strikes of lightning hitting the ground. And the abrupt storm disappeared as swiftly as it appeared.
"Yeno Alatar, there was an easier way of getting here, instead of just dropping out of the sky!" exclaimed a voice.
"I agree!" shouted another voice.
"You both know quite well that this was the quickest way of getting here!" boomed an annoyed voice, "Besides there was no time to travel any other way, Aria's life was in danger and she was our priority!"
Finally, three cloaked figures emerged from the shadows, carrying with them a tightly wrapped bundle. They were an odd bunch. Two short figures striding behind one tall figure. There was one female among the three, her being the shortest.
"Now if my assumptions are correct we should be in Ireland." Said the tall figure, "You both know what to do. Keep my grand-daughter safe and away from harm. When the time is right, I will return for her so she can fulfil her destiny."
"Yes Alatar, we will protect her with our lives." The shorter man said softly.
"I know you will Azar but I can't help but worry for Aria." Alatar sighed quietly, "She may be young but she is powerful and the key to everything."
"We know we will hide her well Alatar," the female voice reassured.
Alatar pulled the bundle out from the folds in his cloaks. He gazed down lovingly at his grand-daughter. He pulled out the silver chain with a silver pendant pendent attached. He gently placed the delicate necklace around her small neck. "Be safe" he muttered in a small voice.
"Alatar if you linger here any longer the darkness will notice" continued the voice quietly.
"I know Lady Tetmae" Alatar said as he slowly reached the child over to her so she could the baby away, "I was just saying good bye…for now"
Alatar slowly turned away from the couple walking away from them and the child.
"Alatar!" Azar yelled.
Alatar stopped and turned to the couple again.
"What of her power?" he rushed quickly, "Surely if they come looking for her they will be drawn to it!"
"Do not worry Master Firespear" he said calmly, "I have already taken care of that for you. Just make sure she wears the pendent and no one will find her."
Alatar spun around again and began to chant into the cool night air "Spirits of the wind I command you to come forth! Take me to the great fortress of the east"
The wind quickly picked up and the storm clouds rolled in and descended upon Alatar engulfing his figure completely but they could still hear his commanding voice above the chaos.
A humongous bolt of lightning flashed across the clouds.
The chanting fell silent. The clouds dispersed. The strong wind died down to a gentle breeze.
The couple broke from the huddle they had formed to protect the baby from the harsh wind.
"Well he certainly knows how to make an exit!" exclaimed Azar, he paused a moment in thought, "you don't suppose there are any pubs near by Tetmae?"
"For Durin's sake Azar," exclaimed Tetmae "Can't you keep your mind off of ale for one night?!"
"It was just a suggestion" Azar said sheepishly, slightly scared of his wife's temper.
"Firstly Azar we are going to find somewhere to stay for the night" Tetmae said firmly "And then I am going to put Aria to bed and then I am going to set your priorities straight." She said while clipping him over the ear as she made past him towards the road.
A look of pure terror crossed Azar's face as he realised how mad his wife actually was but all he could was slowly trial behind her quietly trying not to raise her ire towards him again.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter! Constructive criticism is welcome after all this is my first attempt at this sort of thing!
