The streets of Cinnabar were a blaze, despite the late hour, officers were rushing along the cobblestone. There was shouting, desperate cries from one man or woman to another as civilians were remanded to their homes. Children were hiding behind their mother's skirts and peeking around doors as they tried to get a glimpse of what was causing the problem before they were shoved back inside and ushered back to bed.

"Have you found her?" the police captain asked in a harsh tone as one of his officers came at a run. The officer shook his head and reported that the southern half of the island was completely clean, there was no sign of the little girl that they were looking for. Obviously not liking the news that he was given, the captain gave the officer a shove.

"Well keep looking!" the lower officer nodded and saluted before running off in another direction. "Where is she? It's an island!"

Mewtwo didn't care about what was causing the commotion, he didn't bother to look into why the humans were so upset, the only thing he cared for was the fact that he couldn't travel easily while it was going on. Times like this caused suspicion, and that meant that it was likely that the humans would inspect him if he came into contact with them. Not something that was good when you were being hunted.

Ducking into a thicket as four officers passed, he watched them as they searched the brush a ways away. What were they looking for?

It was then that he heard it, soft, gasping breaths coming from a little ways behind him. Much too quiet for a human to hear, he turned to inspect what it was that was making the noise. As it was he was sure he'd found what it was that the humans were looking for when he saw it.

A little girl of perhaps nine.

She was laying on her back, panting and wheezing as she tried desperately to get air into her lungs. As it seemed her body was rejecting the process. Her eyes were wide, like a deer caught in the sight line of a predator, as she stared at him; her chest rising and falling rapidly. Even in the dark he could tell that her lips were discolored, she was going to die.

"Breathe slowly" he ordered gently, though the words were spoken only with his mind, she heard them and immediately tried to obey. "Deep breaths." The frightened child nodded and did her best to do as he said, and in the dark his muzzle curled into what could have been called a smile.

Then he stood and backed away, the girl barely made a noise of protest and reached after him.

"Don't worry, I won't just leave you here..." He stepped into the shadows as his eyes glowed blue and the little girl stared at those eyes as the four officers that had been nearby came rushing into the thicket.

"We found her!" they shouted, one of them running ahead as another gathered her into their arms. If anyone had witnessed it, they might have asked why the pokemon that hated humans with such a burning passion would have done such a thing for this little girl. And had they asked he would have only given one answer, because she'd needed him in the most desperate and honest way.

He could have read her heart through her eyes even in the pitch black of the night, the only thing she'd wanted was to live for another day. She couldn't have called out for herself, so she'd begged, pleaded with him with those beautiful eyes of hers to do it for her; and he had.

She stared right at him until the officers disappeared, taking her with them. Not once did he move until they were gone and when they were he kicked off of the ground; leaving the island behind.
