A/N: Just a little drabble I put together, because I'm braindead. I hope you enjoy.
Roadside
Bronze and porcelain skin contrast and compliment each other, just as the lovers themselves did. With fingers interlaced the pair fall into the sweat-cloaked sheets, entwining in an embrace as they fall into slumber, Goku takes the time to study his lover, knowing that things are changing all around him. His lover is growing steadily older with the years that pass, with wrinkles that will make their way onto his youthful face. Goku tries to image Sanzo with graying hair in those late hours and often he fails because he doesn't like to think about what will happen when Sanzo grows old without him.
Goku knows that he'll never grow old. He fears he still won't look twenty when his friends reach their eighties. The pain of knowing that his friends are going to grow up and die without him is almost too painful to bear. Nausea and disgust well inside his stomach and more then once it has caused him to vomit. The pure sadness of being left behind again is often too much to bear.
But then Goku reminds himself that reincarnation always makes its rounds. His friends, and his lover will be back one day, no matter how many years he must wait for them. It may be another five hundred years to wait, this time not caged to the walls of a stone prison but blowing along the sides of the road. A young man with golden eyes dulled with the passing of time, in clothes that change and tear while the rest of him stays the same. A statue at the side of the road, watching as the world changes around him, waiting for the lover who promised to one day return to him.
So he'll wait, ageless, as the world turns on without him. He'll wait forever for Sanzo, even as his name changes and his memory is lost. Even if his face is different Goku will know it is him because his violet eyes will stay the same. And when the day arrives when he sees Sanzo again he will fall in love all over again, devoting himself to the man even if it takes him twenty years for the new Sanzo to return his feelings.
And late on those nights, Goku doesn't tell Sanzo what he thinks about. He doesn't tell him that he often dreads the day when Sanzo will leave him. He doesn't tell him that he's saddened to see the signs of age settling into his friends, knowing that they're leaving him behind. Instead he simply masks it with a charming smile he knows makes Sanzo swoon.
Goku enjoys the moment in the morning when Sanzo still sleeps, and Goku can be tangled in his arms. He enjoys the moments of peace and love between them because he knows that one day it's going to end. He can be depressed later, he decided long ago, when the realization that he would never die settled in. For now, he would be happy with the man he loved and loved him back.
And whenever Sanzo asks him what he's thinking about, Goku can only smile. He wouldn't dare tell the monk his deep and intricate thoughts, and instead cuddles up close and says, "I was thinking about how sexy you look." This will always gain him a smack, a string of curses, and an adorable blush as the monk pulled away.
So Goku never thought about the future. He could deal with it when it came, but for now, he had Sanzo. That was all he would ever need.
