Hey there ! It's been a long time, isn't it ?
I didn't upload for 2 months almost, but I'm sure that nobody remembered what I wrote but it's fine !
To make it short : I don't have as much time as I would like to, so I had to slow down the writing, but I'm back ! For now at least.
This story was hugely inspired by an anonymous idea left in the IzuOcha Discord and I mixed it with the old timeline of my other fics (yeah, they were supposed to be in a timeline of multiple stories… Now it's scrapped).
Having said that, I hope that you'll like this story, and try to catch every reference that I put in this text !
Enjoy !
Another thing : There will be new Quirks and minor OCs, just so you know.
Chap 1 : Back on Track :
Hi. My name is Izuku Midoriya and if you are reading these words, that means that you are willing to discover how everything ended. Well, not exactly everything, but how what we knew as a group of students of U.A. was destroyed, forever.
You might know me, but to you, I'm dead, right? How can I know all of that? How can you read these lines if I disappeared? You'll understand later, but first things first, you need to know how it all started.
Izuku's fourth birthday was going to be in only a week, and every single day, he woke up with hope in his heart. Hope to get explosive palms, to get wings in his back, to get a telekinetic power; but nothing ever appeared. His Quirk took longer than usual to appear, but he still hoped to get his own little ability. He didn't lose hope because the decisive date of his fourth years hadn't come yet.
But one day, he woke up with a strange symbol on his left hand: a simple white circle, with a black outline. That was his Quirk, a plain-looking round shape. For a long time, he tried to launch different balls of power, move objects with his mind, put different powders or elements on his circle to activate something, when he was hurt he tried to heal himself or to manipulate his wounds… But nothing never happened.
The fact that he had a Quirk that special was tough to endure. Nobody in his family ever had something like that, so there was no way he could have developed his abilities faster, or that he could have inherited this from someone. Was having an unknown Quirk better than being Quirkless ? Izuku couldn't know, but one thing was sure : his mother was there to support him. Her wish was to make her son happy, but he couldn't achieve his dream of being a Hero without a Quirk that he controlled.
Outside of his home was a desolated land of terror that everybody else called 'school'. Bullying was always near, but Izuku always kept a smile on his face, like All Might, his Hero. The most heart-ripping person out there was Katsuki Bakugo. A long time ago, they were friends. 'Kacchan', as he called him, had been the leader of the group; but fast enough, the Quirk of Bakugo changed him. The explosive boy started bullying Deku because his Quirk wasn't enough, it didn't do anything at the time.
Izuku still watched over and over the same low-quality video of All Might saving these same people in the same place. The iconic phrase slowly but surely engraving itself in his mind: "I am here". The inspiration that the Symbol of Justice gave him was unmatched. He was going to be a hero, he just knew it. And nothing could ever stop him.
Several years later, Izuku applied at U.A., the one of the best and biggest Hero-training High School in Japan. The news meant two things:
One, he would have to train better than he could imagine, study a lot of future heroes and learn even more about Quirks. His notebooks would be even fuller than before, maybe he should buy some other ones.
The second thing was more problematic : The entrance exam started in only three months, and nobody even knew what his Quirk did. While this was a little bit problematic in the inscription sheets, this quickly became a big issue as the days passed.
The time seemed to speed up as Deku tried to get his Quirk to function, when one day, everything started by accident.
Izuku was holding one of his All Might mini toy in his right hand, thinking about his Quirk; how he could be activated. Switching the figurine in his circled-hand, the object started shaking a little bit. He felt a weird sensation in his palm, like if something tried to enter inside of it, from the toy to his hand. The green-haired boy looked at his fist and saw a mind-blowing thing : The colors of the Hero's model had completely disappeared !
On top of that, he noticed a slight change : the circle on his hand had taken the colors that had vanished. In the center, there was a slight blue, yellow and red mark.
The joy that fulfilled his heart at that precise instant was unspeakable. He finally found this Quirk. His Quirk.
The rest of the day was spent celebrating with his mother the discovery of this power that would change his life completely.
[Color Splash] User : Izuku "Deku" Midoriya
The user can drain the colors of objects through his left hand, leaving them in black and white. This "fills" a circle that represents how much color he has left to use. The colors can be used to activate these powers:
Red Tactile Healing : The user can heal physical wounds when there's a contact between the left hand and the injury.
Blue Speel Spell : By touching an object, the user can make it accelerate faster and/or make its maximum speed faster.
Yellow Midas' Touch : The user creates a golden gel that covers his hand (but let him see the circle). It's hard as steel so
it's helpful in hand to hand fight, and it keeps the maneuverability of the skin. Only stays a little bit of time, and only on his hands.
Purple Memory Transfer : Allow the user to get memories of the others by putting the left hand on their head. Does not allow to read the memories, just to transfer some by thinking about a precise subject and/or time.
Vert Spheromones : The user can draw a circle in the air, which produces a green sphere that goes in a straight line. When the sphere hit someone, it is suddenly changed to one of these emotions : Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust or Fear.
Orange Comatosmoke : Release from the left hand an orange smoke that put asleep anyone who breathes it.
The next two months were spent trying to discover every little detail about his Quirk, how to use it properly and everything. Every day, he woke up at seven in the morning, went to the municipal beach and started training. The Quirk wasn't going to make him pass by itself, right ? Izuku needed to become stronger physically in order to manipulate this newly discovered power at its full potential.
A big discovery that he made was the fact that everything about this Quirk was linked to his left hand, from draining the colors to healing wounds. It certainly restraint the power that he could use (after all, Izuku was right-handed), but it wasn't enough to discourage him. He finally had a usable Quirk after almost 14 years of struggle, so a little thing like that couldn't stop him from entering at U.A.
That was it. The day that he'd been waiting for for so long. The entrance exam was just in an hour, and Izuku hadn't even crossed the entrance doors. He couldn't count the number of heroes that started here and he was going to be one of them soon.
This is it, I'm going to be in U.A. and become a Hero. I wonder who will our teachers be, will I know them ? And what about my Qu...
He hadn't the time to finish his sentence that he took one of his foot in his other and he started falling. Great, first day and I'm going to hurt myself before entering the building. The time seemed to slow down while he quickly looked at the ground which was getting closer and closer, faster and faster… Until it stopped when a hand touched his shoulder. He felt, well, weightless.
"Huh, sorry about that. 'Should've warned you before, but you seemed to need help." Said a feminine voice on his left.
Izuku looked to see who saved him from his tripping. It was a nice girl who looked to have his age. Brown bubbly hair and a foolproof smile. Still levitating, she pressed her fingertips together and said : "Release".
Not saying how to react to this situation (a girl that he didn't know touched him after all), Izuku couldn't do anything but blush a little and stutter something that must have sounded like a "t-t-tt-t-ktk y-y-ou" more than a "thank you".
"Well, we need to hurry or we will be late for the exam. See ya'! " Said the girl, with an encouraging tone in her voice, waving at the boy who couldn't do a thing but slightly raise his arm to say goodbye.
And that's how he met Ochako Uraraka, the "nice girl from the exam" that will start the chaos, but not on purpose.
Later that day, after the writing part, which has been fairly easy for someone like Midoriya who studied Heroes on his free time, came the practical exercise. Every candidate was placed in front of a huge field, which recreated a city.
It was not the first time that Izuku had feared for the day, but this time, he had another feeling inside of him. He was impatient to see what he could do, but more importantly, he was impatient to see the others' Quirks. He already knew the ability to make things float of that girl, and he could see some other ones which are mutant-types Quirks. As Present Mic said, this will be against robots and they'll offer points depending on their power and difficulty.
Seeing the 'floating girl' from afar he tried to come to say a proper thanks, but a voice shouted through the speakers, indicating that everything would start soon enough. Quickly looking around him, he caught the gaze of a tall black-haired man with odd rectangular glasses that made him look even more serious and focused than he would have been otherwise.
Midoriya's brain had just enough time to process what he saw when the countdown arrived at zero. As the gigantic doors opened, everyone rushed inside of the fake city-like terrain, not wanting to lose any time.
Left at the back of the crowd, Izuku ran to get inside of the 'arena' as soon as possible. A quick glance at his left hand indicated to him that he was full. He filled his 'color stack' before exiting his house, and this would be really useful. His Quirk wasn't really the most powerful in battle, it was more like a support one, but this didn't mean that he couldn't do anything.
Izuku quickly thought about a strategy to use in this situation. His red healing power would be useful to heal the others contestants. While this could've been seen as a stupid way to help the others gain points faster, Izuku looked carefully on the Internet for the last years' exams. The school had been really private about these, but a few pieces of information have leaked, one of them stating that you can get points by helping the others contestants, which is exactly what can happen in a battle against a Villain : the cooperation helps sometimes more than raw power.
Knowing this, his green, orange and purple powers would be extremely useless since they only affect humans. The yellow could be used to punch some robots, in combination with the speedy-thing used on himself so he could dodge the robots' attacks. Another possibility could be to break some parts of the ground and throw the bigger parts with the speed-increasing blue part of his Quirk. With enough speed, this could break the metal and give enough points.
Not wanting to lose any more seconds, Midoriya rushed in the street on his right, to see the first robot. They were bigger than he expected, doing almost three times his size. He activated his Midas' Touch and rushed to destroy his first opponent when a pink-ish laser pierced it. The guy who fired it was a blonde boy, who had… are these sparkles around him ?
"Bonjour! I see that you are charmed by moi! I can understand why, mon ami! I hope that you will see me sparkling later. Adieu!"
What a weird person. But Izuku hadn't any time to spend right now. Going towards the center of the city, he only met piles of scrap metal, sometimes burned, sometimes melted, and sometimes just smashed to death. Not seeing any 'alive' robots, he decided to enter a new street, and another, then another again. Nothing was to be seen, except more metal. It seemed like every possible bot had already been crushed. One street ahead, he saw the girl from before who released her power, making the three bots fall on the ground and deactivating them.
"Ok, that's twenty-three points!" Said happily the gravity-nullifier. Izuku let out a cry of surprise. already 23 points ? He didn't even have a single one. Hearing that, the girl quickly looked at Midoriya but focused back on her task of destroying them all.
A scream came out of the other side of the street, and Izuku saw a black-haired girl who was on the ground, a robot right above her, ready to strike. Not thinking about his acts, he placed his left hand on his right arm and activated his Speed Spell on himself. With the help of his quirk, he ran as fast as he could while covering his left fist with his signature hardening golden gel. When he was closer to the threat, he swung his punch and hit the machine in the 'head', projecting it in a wall.
"Thanks a lot!" Said the rescued girl. She wasn't the same girl as before. Izuku didn't need her to say anything to see that she was badly injured at her legs, which were under a rock. She couldn't take it off. He removed the rock (which, let's say it, was pretty heavy) and quickly healed her injury with his red power.
Present Mic announced that the last 3 minutes started when Izuku thought that he only had beaten one 2-point robot. However, one slight little detail that the color manipulator didn't hear was the fact that the "Type: 0" bots were freed. At the seconds when this was said, the grounded started shaking, and big, huge, gigantic, robots appeared above the building.
"What are they ?"
"So, this is the zero-point robots ?"
"I'm not going to fight it."
There was six of them in total, and they were moving unexpectedly. Izuku couldn't think straight, he saw everyone who ran away from them. 'How did they come here ? I didn't see anything !" One of them in particular 'spawned' in the center of the field, and while everyone saw it at the exact instant it appeared, there was a special person who didn't see soon enough the danger that was coming towards her…
Midoriya saw the gravity girl from before who was running, the giant pile of metal chasing her, crushing buildings and roads on its path. She tried to escape the bot but the fate had decided otherwise. She tripped on a concrete iron which protruded from the ground and her foot was stuck inside of it. The mix of adrenaline, rushing and fear didn't help at all.
Izuku didn't know if that was the right thing to do, but he rushed at the robot. He only met the girl two hours ago, but something inside of him took control of his body. His legs started moving by themselves, his left hand activated his speed boost on him, and he kept it activated as long as possible. The golden power covered both his hands and he ran even faster. Everybody who ran past him thought that he was crazy or just blind, but he was neither of those. He passed next to the girl on the ground and quickly looked at her. He caught her look, a look that could say thousands of emotions to this savior, but the main one was fear, for him.
Everything that happened next moved too fast, but Izuku could see and feel every detail of it. He jumped and activated a second time his speed-raising semi-Quirk, almost breaking the sound barrier. Approaching the robot, he threw his right fist covered in the steel-like material right in the head of the threat. With this speed, the power that was delivered in this small point was enormous, the metal giant couldn't take this hit, and he slowly but surely fell back, destroying even more building.
There was a little problem that Izuku didn't think about before : How can he get down? The world didn't wait for him to find a solution because he started falling down at a pace that was too fast for him.
Wait, no. No, no, no, no. This can't end right now. Ok… Think fast, what can you do? The ground was closer than before. Is there anything that I can do here ? Sadly, none of his powers could do anything.
His salute came in the form of the girl that he saved. As he was falling, she had just enough time to free herself. She moved and jumped on the boy when he was close to the ground, slapped him in the face to make him weightless and successfully stopped him. Releasing her power, he closed the distance between him and the ground.
The last second of the test had just passed when Izuku fell asleep from fatigue.
So, this thing was interesting to write, in a lot of ways.
It was meant to be just a recap of what this Izuku had lived from the discovery of his quirk to the forest arc mainly, and then start the main story of the Ochassault (you'll see later); but I recently read another fiction (Phoenix, you should read it) and I liked the idea of doing the "canon" things in detail before telling the story, to add a context.
I need to say that again, but thanks to the anonymous guy who sent the idea for the Quirk in the discord "Izuku has a quirk that lets him drain color out of objects to use in different ways based on the color drained" . While that is just the base for the fic, I just loved the idea and thought immediately that I needed to write that.
Stay tuned for the next chapter, and I'll see you next time !
