So as I'm waiting for my teacher to respond to my email, I decided to write a story. Ha ha. Hopefully, it'll be soon. :)
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal.
"Rio-san? Who are you planning to ask to go with you to the Sadies Hawkins dance?" Kotori asked her best friend as they walked the halls of Heartland Academy.
Rio looked at her friend. "What are you talking about? I'm not going."
Kotori looked at her with wide eyes. "What?! What do you mean you're not going?! You have to go!"
Rio furrowed her eyebrows. "Why do I have to go?"
Kotori blinked. "Um... Well... You know... Because...?"
Rio laughed at Kotori's response. "Uh huh. Because. I'm not going and that's final."
Kotori sighed. She knew her best friend's stubbornness, so she decided to not prod more into the situation. Rio took a look at her watch and realized that she must get going.
"Kotori-san. I have to go. I need to meet up with Kaito-senpai."
Kotori nodded. "That's fine." Kotori began walking away from her friend when she stopped as she realized something. She turned in time as Rio was almost out of sight. "Rio-san!" Rio stopped walking and turned to look at her. "Maybe you could invite Kaito-senpai to the dance..." With that, Kotori left Rio to think.
It took a while before Rio could register what her friend had said. "...WAIT! WHAT?!"
"Rio. You see? We almost have the..." Kaito began but trailed off when he saw that Rio wasn't paying attention to him. It would seem that she had zoned off. Kaito sighed. All day, since they have met up, she has been zoning off to who knows where. He decided to wait until she broke out of her trance.
A few minutes later, it seemed that Rio came back to the world of the humans. "Hm. What was that, Kaito-senpai?"
Kaito, once again, sighed. He usually wasn't one to sigh, his stoic demeanor didn't allow it. But with Rio, he can slack off once in a while. "You've been zoning off way too much for just one day."
Rio blinked in disbelief and in embarrassment. She ducked her head. "I'm sorry..."
"What's wrong, Rio?" Kaito asked, wanting to know the reason for his most intellectual kouhai's distraction. He stared at her and waited until she lifted her head up.
Rio, feeling her senpai's stare, sighed and raised her head. She knew her senpai would keep pestering until she spilled, so she might as well just tell him. "The Sadies Hawkins dance..."
It took all of Kaito's power to not twitch. He knew that his kouhai was a growing teenage girl... But he thought that she was purely focused on her studies. 'Well, I guess girls are girls no matter their goals.'
When Rio realized that Kaito became deathly silent, she flushed in embarrassment. "I mean... I told Kotori that I wasn't going to go, but then she said that I could invite you instead..."
Kaito froze. The girl said that so calmly, he could believe that she said that as friends. But...
"And that's bothering you how?" Kaito dared to ask.
Rio sighed. "Well... I've never been to a dance, and I told myself that I was never going to go to one... Yet... I feel that..."
Kaito, unbeknownst to himself, smiled. "You want to go despite your ideals?"
Rio nodded. "I do... But now with people my age... You know... With someone mature... I mean, I wouldn't mind going with you senpai..."
Ah. Kaito completely understood the girl's reasoning because he thought the same way as well. If he had to go to those things, he would be going with someone mature. But she wouldn't mind going with him? Wow. No girl had ever told him that. Well, this one girl did, but he simply brushed her off. For some reason, however, Kaito couldn't reject her.
Besides his ideals, besides everything he stood for, Kaito answered, "I don't mind going."
Rio's head shot up, her eyes wide as she stared into his eyes. "...What?"
"When is it?" Kaito asked, ignoring her surprise at his answer.
"U-Uh...um," Rio stammered. "The 7th of the next month..."
Kaito looked away. "I see. What time do you want me to pick you up?"
Wait! He's serious?! "At...The dance starts at 8 pm... So by 7 o'clock?" Rio suggested.
Kaito nodded, agreeing to the time. "That's good. We got that settled. Now. Why don't we focus on your problems?"
Rio couldn't help herself. She laughed. It was such a beautiful laugh that Kaito could not find it in himself to disrupt it. Instead, he waited until she calmed down. Then he asked, "Why did you do that?"
Rio smiled brightly at him. "Well. I just thought that it was very typical of you to immediately begin working after we were done talking about the dance. I'm sorry. I just found it...funny. You will always be Kaito-senpai no matter what topic."
What was going on with him today? What was his kouhai doing to him? Because Kaito, once again, found himself smiling. "I'll always be the Kaito-senpai you have come to know."
"That's true!" Rio remarked as she smiled again. "Now... About those problems..."
Thus, Kaito and Rio spent the afternoon working on problems.
Well... Well... Yeah. I'm not going to write the dance itself. I just don't have any ideas. :( Such a short one shot, but I haven't written anything in a while. And to be honest, I miss this couple. They're just so fun to write about. Maybe I'll post something else in the future. But for now, this is it. ~Ja ne!
