Worship

Inspired by Tom Hiddleston/Loki's amazing appearance at Comic Con. Links posted below. Just a bit of cracky AU fun. Hope you enjoy! xo

"Loki. Loki. Loki!" The chants of the crowd were growing ever louder, ever more fervent.

Loki's low, silky voice, artificially enhanced in volume, rang out over the city. "Say my name!"

"LOKI!"

As the screams echoed throughout New York, Loki stood proud and undefeated on the rooftop of Stark Tower, his arms spread wide, his face lifted up to the warm glow of the sun, an ecstatic grin spreading across his thin lips as he regarded the masses in the streets below, soaking up every single morsel of adoration and worship that they were so willing to give him.

"What the actual-?" Tony pinched the bridge of his nose extra hard before taking a deep breath. "This is crazy. Absolutely fucking crazy." He gestured at the scene before them. Loki was parading around like pantomime villain, the citizens of the city acting as a more than enthusiastic audience to his clichés of loyalty and need. And seriously were those people in that corner actually kneeling? Bloody Rudolph hadn't even issued that particular demand yet.

Natasha shrugged her slender shoulders. "Some people have a thing for leather," she suggested with a wry smile earning herself a sharp look from a jealous Clint.

Steve shook his head in disbelief. "But he's the villain," he said with just enough plaintiveness to make Tony almost but not quite suppress a snigger.

"Now kneel."

"Please tell me they are not going to – argh!" Metal clanged off metal as Tony face palmed. "Even I can't get people to do that!"

Thor sighed heavily. "I don't think I've ever seen my brother look so happy," he said wistfully.

Bruce was cleaning his glasses with his shirt sleeve. "You have to admit that psychologically it is fascinating." He set his glasses back firmly on his nose. "There are studies which prove how quickly people will respond to a figure of perceived authority even in the most tenuous of circumstances."

Fury who had been surveying events with almost unnerving calm now gave a resolute nod as if he had made a distasteful but final decision. Lifting a hand to switch on his headpiece again, he spoke with a note of grim resignation in his deep voice, "Plan Code TWH is now in operation." He gave the gloating figure of Loki a look of disgust before turning and striding back inside towards the bar. "Let's start with Vogue; it's not as if he couldn't do with the fashion advice. "

"Code TWH?" Steve repeated weakly.

"I'm sure Fury has an entire alphabet of back up plans," Natasha replied barely even raising an eyebrow at the Director's sudden departure. "Anyone else fancy a drink? I could murder a decent vodka right now."

Loki turned away from the rapt crowds below, his cape swirling around him in the strong breeze as he observed the glum, distinctly unimpressed faces of the Avengers. There was a look of something close to astonishment in his vivid blue-green eyes but his smirk was undeniably gleeful. "The Midgardians are proving remarkably complaint. More so than I had anticipated."

"Yeah," Tony took a large swig of the whiskey that Natasha had just handed to him, "We noticed."
