I don't own Vampire Knight or any of its characters
Because they are filled with pathos, every single last one of them, filled to the brim with it.
They are full of pathos, all of them. So much so, that even their happy endings must seem like tragedies to those who cannot understand.
Yuuki wonders if he were to drink her blood right now, what he would think? She has grown up marvelously; his gentle smile would reflect that. He was her first memory and now he will be the last. The alpha and the omega, the center of her tragic cosmos.
She leaves him in her children's care. They have grown up gently. They will teach her beloved to become gentle, too.
Her daughter and her son. One of each, gifts from the two men that held her heart. They stand behind her, silent and accepting -the oldest child in particular. The ancient blood flowing through her daughter's veins makes her especially perceptive of the pain of endless life. Her aristocratic son is much luckier Yuuki supposes, even without the "medicine" he would eventually have eternal rest.
Yuuki is not worried for her daughter, though maybe she should be. Her daughter has an eternity to get to know her father. Perhaps, this time he will make it last. Even if her spell does not, Yuuki already knows that things will be different.
Should Kaname ever revert, the circumstances will be different. He will be a different man, a different creature. He will not be driven into a corner by a desperate need to protect. He will not be constrained by a weak creature that he desperately wants to shield. How could he have loved with all that fear? No, his course of actions will most definitely be different this time around.
"To you whom I love…"
She recites the words she has whispered in countless dreams and endless nightmares. She has always. always missed him. There will be peace when she has finished. Quiet and peace and of course, a little bit of Zero too. They will wait for him on the other side, once Kaname has crossed the veil peacefully and quietly in old age. She presses this prayer to her lover's lips.
"I want to give to you…the world that I saw as a human."
'To you who has suffered an unquenchable thirst…"
Zero had held her heart but Kaname had always been her heart. It is only right that she return what has always been his.
"…may your thirst be quenched."
