Prologue
Three, maybe four, blocks from the White House resides an old library. Inside that old library a man in his early thirties, and a girl. One would call her his daughter, another would say that she's a roommate. It all depends on perspective. He cares for her in place of her no longer existing parents. In reality, they care for each other. They live in an apartment above the building of books. Joseph, the man, works almost day and night as a police officer. His advisor keeps the best on duty for as long as he can. That leaves the girl all to herself. Aradia is her name.
She doesn't go to school. She can't, really. Her parent's death was mentioned. They died in a fire, leaving her to fend on her own. She watched as they were buried- in 1952. You're thinking, 'That doesn't add up.' most likely. And logically, it doesn't. Aradia is fifteen, and has been for seventy-nine years. So in reality, she's ninety-four. Crazy stuff, huh? This special girl and Joseph are both shape shifters. Aradia is the only immortal shape shifter to ever live. Why, you ask? Well, that's a story for another time. She's unique, in general. Most shape shifters have unusual hair colors, but once again, she's the only one with white hair.
Shape shifters do have weaknesses; silver, dogs, and retinal flare. But the only way to kill them with silver, is the pierce their heart. Yes, a cut would be very painful if caused by silver. Now the easiest way to kill one is decapitation. Works like a charm. The one's who value this information most are vampires. Shape shifters and vampires are natural born enemies. It's not for survival, either. Vampires can't consume human food. Beverages, yes, but not food. They must feed on human blood. Shape shifters can eat human food. The only catch is that they absolutely cannot drink straight water. It's almost like drinking bleach to them.
Vampires can easily be killed with silver, for they can't even touch it without inflicting excruciating pain on themselves. Fire can also do the job, if one is out of luck. Aradia makes sure to never be seen without her silver ring and choker. Vampires tend to bite mostly on the neck, where there is great blood flow and is easy access. If one tries to bite Aradia, they'll surely be met with a not so pleasant surprise. Or maybe, she feels like punching a vampire, creating a mark of her ring that will definitely scar. Her ring is made of the purest form of silver, making it's touch permanent.
That's all for now.. Toodles.
