Summary: What will it take for Prue to say yes?

The Game of Love

by superstarpier

Prue gazed out the Manor window into the night. Her eyes fixated on the old birch tree in the backyard; the one that her and Andy had carved their initials into when they first started dating. They were only fifteen. Prue sighed and shifted her gaze skyward. She didn't know why, but she found herself wondering if her mother had ever felt this way, this.unsure. Was unsure even the right word? Prue didn't know anymore. For the last few days, Prue hadn't had much else on her mind.

Andy opened the door to her office and poked his head in to make sure she was alone. Prue nodded, a signal that it was alright to come in. She sighed, bracing herself for some new murder case, which Andy thought to be supernatural. That was the only time she had seen him lately, to discuss the 'freaky' cases Andy dealt with.

Andy closed the door and made his way to the welcoming chair opposite Prue's. Prue noticed that his hands weren't full of the usual dossier, weapon or murder file. She raised her eyebrows, "Business?" She asked.

Andy shook his head. "Uh, no." He drummed his fingers nervously on Prue's desk.

She looked at him expectantly. "Well?"

"I uh.I." Andy stood for a second, and sat down again. Prue's lips formed a small smile.

"I was wondering." Andy tried again. "Listen, Prue." He looked her straight in the eyes. "I thought more about what you told me, about being a witch. And I thought more about you, as a person. And I thought about me, as a person. And then I thought more about us, as a, you know, us. And I realized that I don't want to just throw away what we had." He stood again, and made his way around Prue's desk and stood in front of her. She took his outstretched hand and lifted herself up to face him. "Prue, I want to give it another shot. I want to give us another shot."

Prue didn't know what to say. Wasn't this what she'd secretly wanted ever since her and Andy had stopped seeing each other? Why was it taking her so long to respond?

"Prue? Say something." Andy searched her eyes for an answer.

"I.I can't believe I'm going to say this." Prue looked up at him with a hint of disbelief in her eyes. "I need to think about this, Andy."

Andy took a moment before he spoke again, "Right. Well, okay. You deserve that much. Call me, okay?" He forced a smile and gave her hand a quick squeeze before leaving her office.

That was the scene that had been replaying in her mind for the last few days. She couldn't focus properly at work, barely managing to keep pretences up that her mind wasn't preoccupied. She was having trouble keeping it from Piper and Phoebe; she feared they were letting on to the fact that something was nagging at her conscience. She needed to come to a decision, but why was it so difficult for her? What was preventing her from saying yes to the only love she'd ever known?

Prue sighed and exasperated sigh and gazed at the birch tree again, letting the scene play in her head once more. She was brought back to reality by the gentle touch of a concerned sister on her shoulder. "A very wise big sister once told me that Love is the only game you lose by not playing." Came the whispered words of a younger sister.

Prue smiled, and without moving her eyes from the tree, whispered back, "Thanks Piper."

Piper nodded silently and stroked her sister's arm, leaving Prue alone to think about what she'd said.

Prue blindly reached for the phone and dialled one of the few numbers that had been implanted in her fingers.

"Hello?" Came a gruff, half asleep voice from the other end.

Prue smiled.

"Yes, Andy. The answer's yes."
