……………….

Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell was quiet. Dr. Carolyn Lam was worried. This is not at all what she had expected. He didn't sleep. Or talk. Or read. However, he did fidget.

Fingers wrapped too tightly around the steering wheel, Carolyn's physician's compassion flew out the window. Obviously the man was not happy.

Her sixth (and final) attempt at conversation held much irritation. "Cam, if you didn't want to come, you didn't have to."

"What?" He whipped his head around, confused.

Glaring at the winding road ahead, she repeated, "You didn't have to come. You don't seem too happy."

"What?"

She applied the brakes cautiously, slowing to a crawl towards the narrow shoulder of the road. She slammed the gear in park. "Look, I can take you…"

He unbuckled the seatbelt so fast, it snapped against the door. Cam got out and walked around the car. Opening her door, he leaned in, reaching across her, his chest brushing hers, and popped her seatbelt loose.

Carolyn managed to hold the squeak inside.

"Lady, you have got to be kiddin' me." Taking her by the arm, Cam hauled her out of the car. "I've been dreamin' about you since the first band-aid you slapped on my noggin!" He stood her against the car, set her back against the metal frame, moved against her, hands on each side of her face, "I can tell you this, every time you touched my body, in your way too professional manner, I nearly lost it. I can't even find the breath to talk when you're sittin' there lookin' like every man's dream and cool as a cucumber." Lips open, his mouth came close, stopping a hair's breath from hers. "I'm gonna kiss you. I'm gonna..." a car zoomed past, horn blaring, but neither of them noted it, "...take my time, right here, right now and explore every nook and cranny in your hot little mouth. Then I'm gonna strap you in this car, haul you up to the love shack and..." an inferno blasted against her ear as he told her exactly what he was going to do.

The puddle that was Carolyn Lam existed only in his arms and in the fire of his mouth. Damned good thing he was going to drive.
