The One with Ross and Rachel

He sees her from across the hall. His heart starts beating but in fright he looks away as she walks past him. This has been Ross's "love story" with Rachel for as long as he can remember. Rachel was the most popular girl in school, the head cheerleader, and the girl everyone wanted to be like. Ross on the other hand was not popular. He focused on his studies to one day become a paleontologist. What made it even harder for Ross to admit his love for Rachel was the fact that his sister Monica, was her best friend. But all of that was going to change. Ross was finally ready to stand up for his love. He was ready to ask Rachel to his college ball.

Nervous about taking this step, Ross went to Chandler, his best friend, for some advice.

"Chandler, I'm going to ask Rachel out." Ross admits with all his courage. Chandler takes a long pause and busts out in laughter.

"Dude, being funny is my thing." Chandler jokes.

"No, no I'm serious. I'm in college now. Chicks dig college hunks."

"Okay...do you know any college hunks?" Chandler jokes, unable to take the situation seriously.

"Chandler, come on, I'm serious! What should I do?"

"Okay, sorry. You should just go up to her and tell her how you feel. If it's meant to happen, it will. Oh, by the way, who should I take. Hmmm, oh, is Monica going with anyone?"

"What? Monica?" Ross replied shocked and confused.

"No, never mind." Chandler looked away with slightly rosy cheeks.

A week passes by and Ross has prepared everything for the big moment. He sees her from across the hall. His heart starts beating and with courage he holds her hand, gives her a rose, and... just before he could say anything, Chip grabs Rachel by the hip and sweeps her away.

Ross, heartbroken, can do nothing but watch the couple walk away until finally he gives up and turns a shoulder. As Rachel walks down the hall with Chip, she grasps onto the rose. She looks over her shoulder with a sad eye, as if she was unhappy from the unfinished moment with Ross. Too confused, she continues and walks away.

Later that night Monica invites Rachel to come over for dinner. Of course when Rachel got there, there was no dinner left.

"Sorry, I was really hungry." Monica says as she finishes her last bite of pie.

"It's okay." Rachel says uninterested in dinner. "Do you know if Ross is around?" she asks as her eyes searched for him.

"Oh yeah, he's in the living room." Monica says as she grins happily.

That night the moon was shining brighter than usual. As Rachel walks into the living room, it lights up with hundreds of candles. The room is decorated with red and white roses, and The Way You Look Tonight is playing in the background softly. From the corner of the room, Rachel sees someone emerging, like from a shadow. Ross, with a flower in hand, strides up to Rachel, and gives her a rose.

"Rachel..." he says as he stares deeply into her eyes. But before he can continue, Rachel pulls out the rose Ross had given to her earlier that day and whispers something in his ear.

"Yes." And with a peck on the cheek and rose in hand, Ross and Rachel finally begin their love story.
