A/N: This is literally the most random thing I have ever written. The idea came out of nowhere, and I wrote it in under an hour. Which has happened never before, so that's weird and cool. Also, my first "ficlet," I believe.

I have more important fics to be working on, like my multi-chap, and Laws of Attraction spoof, but this is what ye ol' brain felt like producing, so we roll with it lol.

Thoughts always welcome and appreciated! :)

Emma had tried to save her. Really, she'd really, truly tried. For Henry, for the sake of being good, for the sake of herself. Now, she stood gaping at the vacant spot Regina had filled not moments ago. Some savior she'd turned out to be. Regina was gone.

Gone.

The reality of it hit her like a punch in the gut, making her yelp and double over. It felt as though a violent fist had closed around Emma's heart, and she let out a strangled sob, thinking this must be how it felt when the Evil Queen physically ripped the organ from your chest. Maybe the thought of such evil doings should have disgusted her, but right now it only made her cry harder. Besides, Regina wasn't the Evil Queen anymore.

Technically, she wasn't anything anymore.

"You bitch," Emma whimpered to herself. There was no power behind the words, though, no venom. Not that it even mattered what she said, or how she said it. No one could hear beneath her wails, and nothing would bring Regina back.

"You didn't really think you'd rid yourself of me so easily, did you?"

Emma raised her head at the voice, certain she must have imagined it; but no, that was definitely Regina standing there in front of her. How was that even possible, though?

Magic, Emma reminded herself. Regina must have saved herself using magic. Just this once, Emma quickly decided, they didn't have to tell Henry.

Her hammering heart pounded out a fresh flood of tears as Emma scrambled to her feet. Regina's smirk turned skeptical, watching the sheriff rushing towards her. She hadn't even time to decide whether she ought to flee or to fight before Emma's mouth crushed over her own.

Regina's eyes remained open wide as pale pink lips gently kneaded her own. Arms around her neck kept her head locked in place, though it seemed there wasn't anywhere else she particularly wanted to be just then.

Emma pulled back, eyes shining, fat droplets of water constantly spilling over and rolling down to her smiling lips.

"You bitch," Emma whispered again, this time loud enough for Regina to hear, before fusing their mouths back together.

This time, Regina let her eyes fall closed. She kissed Emma back with as much fervor as she was receiving, because now she understood.

Emma had cried tears of sorrow for her, had thought her loss worth mourning. Emma now cried tears of relief for her return, smiling a smile of pure joy. Her words, though hardly romantic to the untrained ear, told Regina that Emma had been afraid, that she didn't want to face this journey alone.

Despite the growing number of eyes upon them, Regina kissed Emma back as though they were the only two people in the world. She kissed her with everything she had, because she had heard, loud and clear, the thing that hadn't been said.

Emma loved her, too.
