The Doctor was grinning almost manically.
Amy frowned at him. "What's got you all … cheery, today, mister?"
"A surprise!" he bounced a tiny bit, straightening his bow tie.
"And what might that be … about?"
"Pond! Silly Pond, surprises aren't about things. They are things!"
"Okay. What is it?"
"And that is something I cannot tell you. Surprise, Pond, surprise."
"Yes. Well." She sat down on the chair by the console with a swish of her red scarf and a slight "hm".
The Doctor turned back to the console, hitting switches and spinning.
"You a ballerina today?"
"Yes, well, ballerina, dancing judoon …. Something like that."
"Right."
A few more minutes of switches and handles, and the Doctor was pulling Amy up out of the seat, skipping to the door. "Now," he said, pushing the door open, "guess where we are!"
Amy stepped out hesitantly, sniffing the air. It was almost minty, with a tiny hint of Earl Grey tea carried on the wind. "Victorian … era?"
"Nope!"
"Um. France? Some … time?"
"A planet! A strange, herby planet!"
"Close, but no." he dragged the words out, putting unnecessary spaces between each. "Look harder."
She took several steps forwards, frowning animatedly and turning in a loop. "Clue."
"Hah, Pond! Never."
It was the hedges that gave it away. "Doctor, is this … Wonderland?"
He laughed like a child. "Yes! Sure took a long time guessing it, eh?"
"Aw, shut up." She grinned. "Wonderland."
"Well, how could I ever resist? Mad, Impossible Amy Pond? We're all mad here. It seemed just so fitting."
