Long had been temporarily subdued and Mele was free. As he cut her loose, Rio stepped back, just to look at her for a moment. There was relief in his heart. She was all right.
"Rio-sama…" She began, apprehensive. She looked at him, blown away, as always, by how handsome he was.
He placed a finger on her lips, pulled her closer and wrapped his arms around her.
Her entire body froze on the spot. Rio was hugging her. She was now so close to his body that she could feel the warmth coming off of his skin and hear the beat of his heart. She was now in the place she had always longed to be, She leaned into the arm touch as his hand rested against her head, lighting pressing it to his shoulder, another hand on her back, lightly caressing the skin. It was everything she'd dreamed it would be.
He let her go. "I…" A pause. "I should have been here sooner. I should never have let him take you. You… mean a lot to me."
She looked up at him; unable to say anything that wouldn't make her sound like a love struck teenager. Was he… confessing his love? She blinked slowly; afraid to ruin the moment she'd been dreaming of.
Rio pulled her close once more and titled her chin up so their eyes locked.
Time seemed to stop.
He leaned in closer to her face and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips.
Mele's eyes shot open like saucers before she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. Rio-sama…
"Aww…." Ran said as Jan set her and Retsu free.
"Stop staring." Retsu scolded.
As Rio pulled away, his lips still close to her, he murmured the words she'd longed to hear. "I love you, Mele."
