Recognition

A/N Set during ANH, the leader of Red Squardron at the Battle of Yavin, Garven "Dave" Dreis also served in the Clone Wars alongside Anakin Skywalker. ( I'm not making that up, it says so on his bio.) Dreis recognizes the name Skywalker and recognizes the Anakin in Luke before the battle. Please RandR. One-shot. Short.
Some of the lines from the movies are not exact...because I can't find my ANH D.V.D, but I hope you enjoy anyway.

Dave Dreis felt...whole again, as he prepared to lead Red Squadron into the biggest battle the Rebellion had fought thus far. It reminded him of the Clone Wars almost, the crazy, anxious atmosphere, of the rebel base made him remember a time, when he'd been much younger of course, a time where it was an honor to fight for freedom.
Dreis was briefing himself on the names of the members of Red Squadron, as he did for every battle.
He was very pleased to see the names of two young, and promising pilots on his list once again, Wedge Antilles, and Bigs Darklighter.
They were great ally's to have on the front line with you.
Dreis continued to look over the names, but balked at the age of the newest pilot in Red Squadron.
Nineten. The kid was a mere 19 year old, he was still acadamy age! Dreis was about to demand an explanation of Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma, but the boy's named stopped him in his tracks.
Luke Skywalker.
Dreis's stomach dropped. He could recall the time near the end of the Clone Wars that he had flown alongside Commander Anakin Skywalker at the battle over Virujansi.
The Hero with No Fear, oh how Dreis had been ecstatic to be serving with him...could this kid be Skywalker's son?
Commander Skywalker had been the best pilot Dreis had ever seen, was that why the Luke kid was piloting alonside him now? Was Luke really...related to Anakin Skywalker?
Luke's age estimated that he was born right as the Empire had begun...that would make since.
It was possible...
Dreis decided to have a look at young Luke Skywalker.
He was easy enough to find; Luke stood by his X-wing talking to an apparent old friend, Biggs Darklighter.
"Skywalker," Dreis barked. It felt good to say that, the way Commander Skywalker used to call him 'Dreis'.
Luke's head snapped up.
He looked a lot like the Anakin that Dreis remembered, the same unruly blonde hair, and electric blue eyes, even the skin tone was the same coloring.
"You sure you can fly this?"
Luke opened his mouth to answer, but Biggs interrupted.
"Luke is the best push pilot in the outer rim territories."
Dreis smiled, softly. Luke sounded as though he lived up to his father's flying skills.
"You'll do fine," he found himself saying.
"Well sir, I'll try," Luke grinned back at Dreis.
As Dreis returned to his own X-wing, he was sure that Luke could live up to his father...maybe Luke would be the one who destroys the Death Star...
Luke was.
