Big Jake was afraid of very few things. But his biggest fear of all was check-ups. He hated them, as he thinks they do more damage than anything as planes are taken apart.

Very often he would make valiant campaigns to get out of having the check-ups, but Brenda Blue, Tarrytown's mechanic, knew when he was up to something and always stopped in.

One day, Big Jake was told that he would need his annual check- up. He immediately came up with a counter attack.

"Brenda, I don't like to alarm you but I think you left the tool box out of the workshop somewhere." Big Jake informed her innocently.

"What are you talking about Big Jake? It's over by my bench." And she went to get it to prove to Big Jake that it was not out of the workshop.

Big Jake immediately took off out of the workshop.

When Brenda realised what was happening, she felt very annoyed and radioed Jay Jay and Tracy.

"Big Jake's due in a check- up but he's run away! Can you two find him please?" She asked urgently.

"Right away Brenda!" They reply in chorus.

...

Meanwhile Big Jake felt very pleased with himself.

"I can't believe that worked! I'm a free jet!" He whooped as he flew along.

"Stop Big Jake!" Called Jay Jay from behind him.

"Yeah!" added Tracy "you need your check- up!"

Big Jake felt defeated. He knew that they had him. So he turned and flew back to Tarrytown, with the two young jets close behind.

...

"I'm sorry I ran off." sighed Big Jake to Brenda later. "I just hate having check-ups done. It's not great being taken to bits."

"But it's only for a few minutes. Besides, these things don't hurt you- they're meant to help. But you shouldn't trick people into getting out of them. You were lucky you didn't get hurt." Brenda replied sternly.

"I know." Big Jake sighed again.

"Oh well, I'll get started then. And don't worry, you'll be flying free in no time!"
