Sometimes we talked in the middle of the night, you know? It was never very long, never face to face. The phone would usually ring around 2:00 AM, after Robin fell asleep or else his ears would pick up the sound, follow it, question it.
The phone rings more often now. It stays unburied, near my pillow, more convenient there, not because I expect a call or anything, no, of course, not.
She calls more often now, never really says much, mostly listens to me. I knew she thought I was funny. Sometimes she does talk. Deep things I don't know how to feel about. Her father, her mother, her powers, her home. It's so…
Well, nearly 2:00 AM. I put down the video game controller and climb into bed. Almost time for…No, not waiting. I try to sleep, pretend it's what I really want. 1:57 AM. Roll over. Kick sheets off, Lord it's hot in here. Shift onto back. Shove hand in pillow. Roll over. 1:58 AM. Dammit.
I close my eyes and the bed vanishes. I'm an eagle, soaring over a deep, vast canyon. A sharp pain in my wing. I'm falling! Everything's a flash as the canyon floor rushed up to greet me.
I jolt awake. Wipe off some sweat. Roll over. 1:59 AM. Shit. I am not waiting! Nope. 2:00 AM. See, no call! Now sleep! Roll over. I wonder why she didn't call. Kick at blankets. Maybe she fell asleep. Fling hand over eyes. What if-
What was that?
There!
There it is again!
That tinkling tune, I recognize it. Where?
I look over the side of my bed. My Titan communicator innocently flashes red up to me. I grab it and run down to the living room. She's already there, everyone's already there. Cinderblock is attacking, might be Slade, Cyborg here, Starfire there, yadda yadda yadda.
I sneak a glance at her. Blank. Of course. She sees me, of course, sends a disappointed look my way. I shift to an eagle, we take off. She lingers with Robin, follows him and Cyborg to the T-car. Sends a sad look my way.
Guess I wasn't the only one who wanted to talk.

Probably a one-shot. I have part of a second part done, but I lost my flow after writing this. xP
Written on a paper towel in the supply closet in the women's restroom at work today. xD I was quite bored.
