This is going to be very short, just a bit of fluff!
It was one of those double date nights at the Hummel-Hudsons residence. Blaine and Rachel had been spending more and more time over there. Carol and Burt got used to seeing them. They got used to the sound of music and laughter that often filled the living room. And they kind of liked it. It was movie night that day. Rachel and Kurt were arguing over what musical to watch while Finn and Blaine rolled their eyes at each other. Carol and Burt were in the kitchen eating left over desert and listening to the fight with bemusement.
"We've seen Funny Girl a dozen times already!" Kurt complained.
"We've seen Sound of Music even more!" Protested Rachel. "And we all know you only like it so much because one of the kid's name is similar to yours."
"That's not true!"
"What do you guys think?" Rachel asked Finn and Blaine, putting them on the spotlight. They looked at each other nervously. They were not expecting this.
"Uh..."Finn stammered.
"Uh..."Blaine also said. Kurt and Rachel rolled their eyes at them.
"How about we don't watch either of them?" Finn suggested. Rachel stared at him. "That way no one wins," he added.
"Fine," both Rachel and Kurt snapped.
"You guys pick,"added Kurt.
"How about Phantom of the Opera?" Blaine asked and Finn nodded.
"I like that idea."
"I'm impressed," admitted Kurt. Even Rachel liked the choice.
Finally they settled into comfortable positions to watch the movie and made sure the popcorn was in a reachable location.
Burt and Carol noticed the fighting had stopped.
"Guess they've decided," laughed Carol and Burt grinned.
"Want to check on them?" He asked and she nodded eagerly. They walked to the doorway.
Rachel leaned her head against Finn's shoulder and Finn had his arms wrapped around her back. But what Burt noticed was how Kurt and Blaine looked. Kurt had his head rested against Blaine's chest. Blaine looked down on Kurt with such loving adoration that it kind of threw Burt for a moment. He noticed their fingers were interlaced with each other and Blaine's other hand was running gently through Kurt's hair. He heard Kurt sigh in content. His face looked happy, relaxed, and care free. Burt couldn't remember the last time Kurt looked like that. It was really nice to see. Really really nice.
"Do you see how happy Kurt looks?" Carol asked softly and Burt nodded.
"I do," he said with a smile. He loved the fact Kurt finally found someone as brave as him. And Kurt could be entirely himself with Blaine and Burt knew how rare that kind of find was. He couldn't get over the look in Blaine's eyes, though. He knew love when he saw it, and Blaine had it bad. He had been a bit reserved about the idea of Kurt having a boyfriend at first. Sure, he wanted Kurt to be happy but he wanted to make sure this Blaine kid was okay and wasn't going to use or hurt Kurt. Then he heard what happened on prom night. How Kurt and Blaine were sitting out in the parking lot with Kurt holding his crown, a sad look on his face. How proud Blaine sounded when he said what Kurt had done. And Burt had learned Blaine was there for his son. He made sure his son wasn't humiliated. He made that night into one of the best nights for Kurt, when it could have been one his worsts. From that moment on Burt knew Blaine was good for Kurt. But damn, this was the first time he really got to see how truly at peace and content Kurt was with Blaine. He continued to watch the happiness on his son's face for a little longer and then gestured Carol to let them have their privacy.
He knew that was one image he would not forget for a long, long time.
