Jeff grinned as he looked at his camera with a proud smile. He pulled out the photo, making sure that the light didn't fry it. Perched atop the hill, he could see everlasting for miles around.
"Another perfect shot, Jeff ol boy you've got a gift!" He laughed.
Jeff enjoyed his day job about as much as thee next person, it wasn't bad but where he really liked to be is out in the wild. He'd always been a nature lover at heart, while his wife was content to stay at home and his youngest aspired to be a Doctor.
One day he'd have to get his little June bug's nose from her books and get her out in the wild.
As he readied himself for another photograph, his eyes suddenly noticed movement coming from a small cluster of trees. At first Jeff ignored it, after all a little creature was nothing to worry about.
Until two of the trees fell over.
Jeff Darby knew one thing, there were only a few creatures besides humans that could take down trees…and unless they were in zoos they weren't on this content.
He'd heard no chainsaws or any sound of cutting from where he sat, and he could hear a lot from this spot.
His assumption that the tree had just died of old age quickly died itself. A large "man" came walking from the tree line. He used the term man very loosely.
It was huge, and appeared to be made of metal. Jeff could identify several parts that appeared to come from a semi cab, the figure was draped in colors of red, blue and grey.
He zoomed his camera in, getting a good luck at the things blue head. As he did, it turned toward him sharply. Jeff fought back the urge to scream as it stared aright at him. It didn't even seem to have a real face, just smooth steel.
For what felt like eternity they stared each other down, neither daring to make a move. Until the "man's" metal mask retracted.
Jeff nearly doubled over as the thing seemed to develop a face, with very smooth features. Instead of anger, of confusion, it seemed rather clam. Jeff zoomed out a little and looked up from his camera.
Numbly, he waved his arm at the figure, who responded with a gentle wave right back. He could see that the figure was smiling at him.
Jeff snapped off a photo before the figure put it's arm down. Jeff set down his camera, rubbing his eyes to make sure that sitting out in the sun to long hadn't made him go crazy.
When he looked back though, his "Man" was gone. All that could be made out was a semi truck rolling off into the distance. Jeff sighed, he knew that his little Junebug was right about staying in the sun too long.
As he turned to pack his things up, he noticed something. His camera had developed a snatched it quickly, hoping he hadn't been too late.
Sadly, it was too late and the sun had damaged the photo, but he could still make out what he'd caught.
There was the man he'd seen, a smile still on his face and waving. Jeff stared long and hard at the photo. This was an amazing find…but he knew deep down that nobody would believe him, especially with the photo as damaged as it was.
He decided to keep this photo his little secret, and maybe tell it to his grandchildren someday.
Jeff Kline named June Darby after his mother (june) and his daughter (Darby) So I figured that naming her father Jeff would be a nice tribute.
