It wasn't supposed to be like this.

She fingers his hair, his glorious blaze of rosy hair that always brought a smile to her face when she saw it at the guild as his hands brushes her face, callouses rough and his touch gentle.

Her tears feel like rain.

His voice is hoarse, endeavoring to comfort her, and only manages to bring more sobs. His lips moved, forming words that were silent and helpless, and she thought how wrong that was because Natsu was never those things…

Happy is crying.

He caresses her stomach, the gentle swell of a promise there, and he says with a half-smile that it was worth it, all the pain. She protests with vehemence, but he just laid a finger on her quivering mouth, and stopped her.

"I never do a thing I regret, Lucy."

And he finally stops breathing and she shoves the body and the lance inside meant for her away and cries in the snow, cries and cries until there's nothing but raw gasping left and she collapses in the snow next to him and holds him close and swears to never leave.

Hours later, a half-naked Ice Mage, an armored redhead, and a blue Dragonslayer with a white cat find a blonde girl propped up against a tree next to a pink haired corpse, cradling a golden child wailing in the cold. A blue cat is curled up next to her, wrenching the baby loose from her tight grip and her bloodied hands.

She is dead.

Because no one lives without their other half.

A/N: I am evil and cold-hearted and I never meant to write this. Oh well…like or review if you DIDN'T like it…?
