A/N: Slightly AU, but I felt that after Teyla was captured, Sheppard and Lorne may have had a "conversation."
Blame.
Sheppard brushed past Sam, and headed towards the armory. Working his way through the corridors and crowds, he quickly reached the armory.
Waving his hand over the door control, the doors slid open.
"Guys, give us a minute," John's gaze locked on Lorne. His voice was level, but it was laced with venom. The other three member's of Lorne's team filed out of the room.
"What happened?" John asked.
"I've already told you, Sir. We were heading towards the gate. We were heading to another planet, after being tipped off, about the whereabout of the Athosians. We were ambushed by a Wraith dart, which fled through the gate. There was nothing we…"
Lorne was caught off guard. John rushed at him, and slammed him into the locker. It made a loud bang, but John didn't care.
"Don't tell me there was nothing you could have done. You could have shot it down, before it took Teyla. Now she's gone."
"Sir, I want to get Teyla back as much as you do…"
"Lorne, don't. Don't try to empathize, sympathize or whatever. No one wants to get Teyla back as much as me."
"With all due respect, Colonel, should you be on this…" Lorne was cut off again, by John slamming his fist onto the locker door, mere millimeters from Lorne's face.
Breathing heavily, John stared directly into Lorne's eyes daring the Major to look away. Lorne didn't. He saw something. He saw that his superior was tearing up inside. He knew that he had let John down. He knew that he had let Teyla down.
"We'll get her back, Sir." It was barely whispered, but something softened in John. Regaining his composure, John backed off and grabbed a vest, and a P90 from the cache, as the door opened and Ronan and Rodney filed in. They took in the scene. They saw Lorne up against a dented locker, and John angrily prepping for the mission.
The rest of Lorne's team filed in and there was a very uneasy silence in the room. Eventually, Lorne let out a breath, he did even know he had been holding.
"All right, let's move out," his voice was steady, but he was still shaken. John didn't move. The others had left the room before he spoke.
"Major!" Lorne turned to face Sheppard. "We'll get her back."
Sheppard passed Lorne on his way out. Lorne felt like smiling, but didn't. He merely nodded.
"Yes, Sir. We'll get her back."
