When my baby Gaz was born it was the biggest day of my life

Lying there with little bows in her hair

In the loving arms of my life

I was the proudest father in the USA

Making a living in a lab somewhere

A thousand miles away

.

It was a happy day,

But kinda sad.

I wish I coulda been there.

I wish I coulda been there.

I wish I coulda been there,

For that.

.

When Dib hit his first home run he was the hero of the hometown crowd

2 to 1 it was the winning run

Everybody was cheering loud

His mother was smiling saying "he's a chip off of the old block"

But I was working in a lab somewhere

Between Memphis and Little Rock

.

It was a happy day,

But kinda sad.

I wish I coulda been there.

I wish I coulda been there.

I wish I coulda been there,

For that.

.

Now Dib and Gaz have both grown up and moved away

They stay in touch, and I am proud

Of the two good kids I've raised.

And it's hard to believe I got the Nobel Prize today.

The party was nice, but the kids weren't there

At least Dib called to say...

.

"Congratulations Professor Dad

I wish I coulda been there.

I wish I coulda been there.

I wish I coulda been there,

For that."

.

It was a happy day,

But kinda sad.

I wish he coulda been there.

I wish he coulda been there.

I wish he coulda been there,

For that.
