Contradictions of Death

Ichigo knew with a certainty that Death was waiting behind him, practically breathing down his neck with an impatience barely leashed.

But he kept on staring into the setting sun from his dangerous perch upon the edge of the rooftop ledge. Even as he smirked at his own arrogance of ignoring such a fearsome force of nature, Ichigo let himself drown into the brilliant colours of the sunset spread out before him.

Dusk was always his favourite time of the day. The piercing rays of the sun would slowly sink into the horizon and let the shadows creep in over the city, washing it in a dazzling array of colours that always made Ichigo sigh.

For it heralded the coming of night and signaled the moment that Death will be allowed to shed its false smiling face give free reign to its terrifying true form.

For the past few months, Ichigo had learned to his great surprise that Death was a mass of contradictions that must never be taken for granted. It was all and nothing at once; its power, the one thing that no one can escape. To Ichigo, Death was simply everything.

Death was both light and darkness; the white glow off smooth pale skin and the darkness of raven tresses sliding through his fingers.

Death has the softest touch, barely a whisper along the lines of his body, but then it would leave the most permanent of marks on his soul with just the merest contact.

Death has –

"Oi!!! Ichigo, are you even listening to me?"

– the most irritating habit of interrupting his thoughts. Ichigo turned to glare her and snapped, "What is it?"

Rukia frowned fiercely back at him as she waged yet another struggle with her juice box. It was obvious that she was losing but stubborn pride stopped her from just giving up and throwing it away. The disgruntled expression on her face said it all – Death will not admit defeat to a mere card box contraption that refused to give up its contents.

Ichigo tried to stop the snort of laughter bubbling up his throat as he realized that Death is also the most adorable thing ever...

"Give me that stupid thing. This is the last time I'm going to open it for you."

... and he was such a sucker for her.

well, did you geddit? i dun know if its really out of character for ichigo to think so deep but then again he is a teenager and they're definitely a breed for brooding.

on the other hand, i also think that ichigo would most likely get a headache if he thinks too much eh? bwaahahha
