Grand Entrances
When Rukia heard the orders that she was going back to Ichigo's school with Renji and the others, her first thought was to plan on how she would make a grand entrance.
She didn't know why exactly, but it had been bugging her that Ichigo had made many, many, many less-than-subtle appearances just at the crucial moments for the maximum impact during most of the major battles ever since she was brought back to Soul Society.
Maybe it just grated on her nerves the blatant way he ignored her instructions not to come after her. But had instead make it glaringly obvious how little her opinions mattered to him by his over-blown entrances.
All she had in mind when she had threatened him not to come after her was his safety. How dare he disregard her concern for his life? Arrogant bastard.
And how dare he make her heart skip a beat every time he made his dramatic entrance.
The first time was when he had literally swooped down to land at her feet. The little girl in her that still believed in fairy tales was practically swooning at the romanticism of it all. And then he had straightened and walked away coolly to seek Hanatarou without a single word to her.
Even as a part of her was damning him for his reckless actions, another secret part of her was rejoicing just at the sight of him.
The next time was when he had stopped the Soukyakyu with just the blade of his Zanpaktou, uncovered but still strapped to his back. She had thought at first that he was a figment of her imagination because she had just mentally said her goodbyes and his face was the last image on her mind.
She was half afraid that she had conjured him up when her heart had been crying out his name.
The last and most dangerous of his many unexpected appearances had been upon the plains of the execution grounds. When he had charged up with abandon to just barely block Aizen-taichou's killing blow. And he had paid dearly for it.
Her already brittle soul had almost shattered at the sight of his fallen form, bleeding and broken, on the ground.
But all that was behind them now. She had made her resolve to get stronger so that she can protect him now, when their roles are reversed and he needed her.
But that didn't mean she can't get the one-up on him when she had the chance. And as she heard the others arguing with Ichigo inside the classroom, she knew her chance had come.
"Ara-what?" she heard Ichigo's puzzled question at Renji's statement.
This was it, the perfect moment for her grand entrance. And the opportunity to insult him for his ignorance was just too good to pass up. She swung herself up the window edge and landed neatly on the edge.
"Dumbass! Those were the guys that nearly killed you yesterday," she managed to get out coolly. And was especially pleased that there was a breeze rustling against her clothes, making her skirt flare out dramatically.
"… Rukia!"
The thunderstruck, gaping-goldfish look on Ichigo's face was priceless! Just what she wanted to see after the numerous times he left her bugged-eyed with surprise and all. And now for the cool, collected one-liner that would really finish him off.
"… Long time no see, Ichigo."
