Author's note: Slightly crazy thing I came up with really late last night, trying to explain Jack's different opinions on Jonas, and how they are dealing with the loss of Daniel.
Jonas walks down the corridor, still slightly confused by the layout. Hearing a familiar voice he stops outside the Colonel's office.
"You're jealous." Sam laughs.
"No!"
"Yes! You're jealous because he's my friend not yours."
"He's a scientist!"
"So is Daniel...So was Daniel," Jonas hears her sigh, "I can't get used to that; talking about him in the past tense."
"He lied, was willing to let Daniel take the blame!"
"So? Tell me you have never done that, never moved the blame to someone else either out of fear or just because you could."
He doesn't reply so Jonas moves forward slightly, enough to see Sam nod at the unspoken answer, before moving back quickly as she turns to face his direction.
"See, Jonas was no different, in fact you two are probably quite alike; so I don't understand why you won't give him a chance."
Looking back at them, he sees Sam looking at the Colonel searchingly, almost as if the answer was written on his face.
"Alright, yes, I'm jealous. You and he just hit it off immediately, where as I couldn't...can't help comparing him to Daniel...and he always comes up short."
Jonas sighs, 'this was a bad idea trying to get Sam to talk to the Colonel.'
"He isn't Daniel...you have to stop thinking like that. They are two separate people, and yes, he may be taking over Daniel's job but that doesn't mean he has to be Daniel."
"I know, I know all this. It's just he acts so much like him, and knows almost everything Daniel knows."
"You don't have to feel the same way about him." Jack looks away at this comment, and the Smile on Sam's face brings new hope to Jonas. "Whatever you feel for Daniel, whatever he felt for you has nothing to do with how you and Jonas feel about each other."
"I know!" The Colonel was starting to sound annoyed.
"I think of Daniel as a brother, but I consider Jonas as nothing more than a close friend, and I don't know if we will ever be as close as me and Daniel were."
"Carter! No offence but you can shut up now. I get what you are trying to say. I will never feel the same about Jonas as I do about Daniel, and I shouldn't expect too."
"Does that mean you are going to start being nicer to him?"
He gives her a mock glare as her answer, and she laughs, walking towards the doorway.
Jonas barely hears the "I'll think about it," as he is too busy trying to get away so that Sam doesn't see him.
