Hi this is Lily and this is my first sad story! Hope you like it. This is dedicated to my fellow critic Vhee. Thanks for criticizing, without you I would have never made this story!

(Sob) I don't own anything… (Sob sob)

…………………………………………

Kurama was sitting by his desk. It was dark now and the only light was the lamp that shined on his face. He had unfinished homework to attend to but he didn't care…

His mind was on the incident that happened just a few hours ago…

Hours ago…

It was evening and Kurama had arrived home from a long day at school. His mother had offered to prepare him some noodles but he declined politely. Telling her that he had already eaten although he had not ate anything since morning.

He was not in the mood for food…

He walked up the steps and walked slowly to his room. He then closed it and silently locked it. He dropped his school bag on the floor and waited…

It was not long for Hiei to arrive…

Hiei hopped into the inviting room and looked at Kurama. He was quite confused. The boy was still in his school uniform. At this time of night Kurama would usually be wearing simple house clothes.

"I have to tell you something Hiei…"

Hiei sat on the window sill. His face showed no interest of any kind. He was emotionless. Kurama felt uneasy by Hiei's silence even if he had grown accustomed to it. His heart pounded furiously and a drip of perspiration trickled down his face. He wiped it off, hoping Hiei did not see it. He looked at Hiei again. He could a hint of impatience in his eyes but nothing else. He realized how cold the fire demons eyes were…

He finally whispered the sentence…

"I love you…"

The room was filled with a deafening silence.

"Is this some kind of joke?"

Those harsh words burned Kurama's heart…

He looked at the demon who was now standing. Staring at him with the same piercing eyes

"No." Kurama whispered.

"Kurama… Why are you telling this to me?"

For once Kurama was speechless. He scanned Hiei's face for any signs of emotion but there was none. He held back the stinging tears that threatened his eyes.

"Did you think you would get any benefit from it? Tell me?" He said sternly.

Kurama looked down solemnly. He didn't know why he told Hiei if he knew he was going to be rejected. He had the slightest hope that Hiei would accept him but now…

"Hn." He walked towards the window. Without turning back he whispered.

"Forget about me fox…"

He then disappeared leaving Kurama alone and heartbroken.

These thoughts trailed in his mind. Then it hit him.

His heart was shattered and he had lost a dear friend…

He collapsed on the desk, filled with regret and agony. His mind filled with the one question.

Why had he told Hiei?

Kurama set his mind to thinking… Then in the early daylights of the morning, he had understood why.

He wanted to tell Hiei not because he wanted to be with him. It was because he wanted Hiei to know. He wanted Hiei to know how much he cared about him. It was as simple as that. By telling him, he released a heavy burden that he had kept for a long time. By telling him, he would not have to live with the regret of not telling how much he loved Hiei…

That was it…

He looked at the beaming sun and smiled. How stupid human emotions could be… He then proceeded to take a shower and head of to school…

As he walked to school he looked up into the trees. Hiei was sleeping on a thick branch.

He smiled at him. He would have to make up with him sooner or later.

When Hiei woke up there was a beautiful rose on his lap…
