What a shame, you always had such beautiful hair.

She blinked. Frowning, she lifted her hand and fingered the hair that fell in her face. Limp, unwashed, and horribly cut. She remembered, though, with a sigh of recognition, that that was her own fault. She looked at the lock she was holding, twirling I between her thumb and forefinger, a thoughtful look on her face now. "Beautiful." She scoffed. Not anymore.

I didn't want to miss my own daughter's coronation.

She laughed out loud at that, a loud, maniacal cackle that rang throughout the stone walls surrounding her. What did she care who heard? "Coronation." She thought to herself. What an idea. She knew now that she was being mocked. What did she care of her accomplishments? Everything she'd ever done had gone unnoticed. Everything.

I think you're confused.

No, as a matter of fact, she wasn't. She knew exactly what she was talking about, thank you very much. "I was never confused." She had been right. She was always right.

All your life you used fear to control people. Like your friends

"No! Don't say their names!" She screeched. She had long since pushed them, and anyone else, out of her mind. She refused to think about them. They were nothing to her. What had they done, her so called friends, except turn their backs on her? Betray her.

Trust is for fools. Fear is the only reliable way. Even you fear me.

No. I love you, Azula.

She shook with anger. She screamed. How dare that woman call her by her name. Like she actually cared about the daughter she never wanted. Like she really did love her. "What a hilarious conception, mother. No, Ursa. You don't deserve the term of endearment. You never did. You never loved me!" She laughed again.

I do.
